Wheeling Township residents will have an opportunity to appeal their 2012 property tax assessments Dec. 13 in Arlington Heights.
The one-hour event, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Wheeling Township Office, will teach homeowners how to file a successful tax appeal. Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak will explain how property taxes are calculated and the appeal procedure of the Board of Review. Staff from the township office and Board of Review will be available to answer questions and to help taxpayers fill out an appeal form.
This event is free to the public and there is no fee to appeal at the Board of Review. Taxpayers are asked to bring a copy of their most recent tax bill.
The event is sponsored by Patlak along with Wheeling Assessor Jerry Sadler, Cook County Commissioner Timothy O. Schneider and State Representative David Harris.
Tax appeals can be filed in Wheeling Township until Dec. 18.
Appeal forms also may be picked up at the Board of Review located at 118 N. Clark Street, Room 601 in Chicago or at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse, 2121 Euclid.
