Village Reiterates Support of Route 53 Extension

Resolution encourages Toll Authority and Governor to complete work soon

Citing growing traffic congestion, Buffalo Grove trustees on Monday passed a resolution that urges the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority to extend Route 53 north to Route 120.

The village's support of the Route 53 extension is the latest resolution in a string of  similar ones over the past 15 years. Lake County voters also indicated support for the extension by a three-to-one margin in 2009.

The intention of the newest resolution, Village President Elliott Hartstein said, is to emphasize "that there continues to be widespread support" for the extension.

"I want to make sure that we keep the extension of Route 53 in their sights," Hartstein said.

At the last-minute suggestion of resident and social activist Rob Sherman, the resolution also urges the governor to support the extension. The resolution, which urges the state to complete the project "at the earliest possible time," will be sent to all state leaders, Hartstein said.
