Village Board Briefs: Oct. 3

The following actions, discussions and announcements took place at Buffalo Grove's Village Board meeting.

Village President Jeff Braiman proclaimed:

  • October as National Disability Awareness Month within the village to celebrate and recognize people with disabilities
  • Oct. 9-15 as Fire Prevention Week
  • October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month
  • October as Walk to School Month

Trustee Andrew Stein and Village Planner Robert Pfeil were named to the Northwest Suburban Housing Collaborative steering committee that will monitor the work program of the housing consultant shared by Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Palatine and Rolling Meadows.

The Village will test its emergency notification system at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 9. All residential and business properties with published telephone numbers as well as other telephone numbers that have been entered into the system will be contacted as part of the test. The notification system is used to communicate emergency situations with residents and businesses.

Village Manager Dane Bragg said the village is working with Lake County officials to see if there will be any recourse for .

Former Trustee DeAnn Glover was recognized for from the . Glover said she will donate the award’s charitable funds to the village’s Pink Heals campaign. She was lauded by past Rotary president John DuRocher, Fire Chief Terry Vavra and Village President Jeff Braiman. Glover was given a standing ovation by the Village Board and those in the audience.

Trustee Beverly Sussman announced that individuals and business representatives are invited to learn about current disability policies and community issues at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 at Village Hall.

Trustee Steve Trilling announced at the is conducting a community survey to help determine how the department is performing and collect suggestions for improving police services.

Officials granted a Class C license allowing for the sale of full liquor to be sold in original packages. The license was requested because the store is converting from a convenience store to a full-service liquor store.

Officials canceled ’ liquor license because the restaurant is being sold to a new owner. The new owner, Ron Griffins Place, Inc., has until Feb. 10, 2012 to complete the village’s requirements for a liquor license. The village manager has the authority to extend the deadline.
