Village Board Briefs: Dec. 19

The following actions, discussions and announcements took place at Buffalo Grove's Village Board meeting.

  • Chief Steve Balinksi presented a $20,000 check to Special Olympics Illinois. The money was raised from the department’s participation in three events earlier this year — the Polar Plunge, a Scotch doubles bowling event and a chili cook-off event with a raffle held last month in Long Grove.
  • Trustees voted 5-0 (Andrew Stein was absent) to abate $200,000 in real estate property taxes, lowering the 2011 levy from $14,401,796 to $14,201,796. The $200,000 had been earmarked for the repayment of bonds issued in 2010 to help pay off debt from facility development and street construction in the 1990s. The money will instead come from an anticipated surplus in the village’s water fund.
  • Trustees approved a $173,400 salary for Village Manager Dane Bragg in 2012.
  • Trustees agreed to seek bids for 2012 street improvements, to be paid from the village’s motor fuel tax fund. Streets slated for improvement include:
  1. Horatio Boulevard, Marie Avenue to Parkchester Road
  2. Joel Lane, Parkchester Road to Horatio Boulevard
  3. Parkchester Road, Newtown Drive to Horatio Boulevard
  4. Newtown Drive, Weiland Road to Horatio Boulevard
  5. Kingsbridge Way, Thompson Boulevard to Brandywyn Lane
  6. Heatherdown Way, Kingsbridge Way to Brandywyn Lane
  7. Busch Parkway, Deerfield Parkway to Milwaukee Avenue
  8. Krause Drive, Deerfield Parkway to end
  9. Gardenia Lane, Harris Drive to end
  10. Windover Circle, Harris Drive to Gardenia Lane
  11. Common Way, Harris Drive to Buffalo Grove Road
