These Kids Love Buffalo Grove

The village honored the winners of its first "Why I Love Buffalo Grove" contest this week.

The village’s inaugural “Why I Love Buffalo Grove” contest made one thing clear. Children in this town really do love it.

Five winners were chosen among more than 100 entries in contest, which invited students to write essays, design posters and create multi-media projects explaining what they love about their hometown.

Winners include kindergartner Vaishnavi Sankar, second-grader Adina Shaikh, Pritchett third-grader Jessica Topel, and eighth-graders Joseph and Jack Moskowitz.

The winners were recognized Monday by the Village Board. They each received a $100 savings bond and will be invited to walk in this year’s Buffalo Grove Days parade. Village President Elliott Hartstein suggested that if they distribute candy along the parade route, they should make the recipients work for it by declaring their love for the village.

“If they do, and they do scream and scream loud enough, only then can you give them some candy,” he told them.
