Stevenson Student Wins Scholarship for ‘Second Inaugural’ Essay

Aliya Baker was a finalist in a statewide contest run by the Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago.

A Stevenson High School senior won a $250 U.S. savings bond scholarship for her version of President Barack Obama’s second inaugural speech.

Her essay was among nearly 60 submissions from a dozen Illinois high schools. The students’ essays showed the writers’ knowledge of current events and topical issues. They were written and judged before Obama delivered his second inaugural address.
