Stein Elected to Village Board, SHS Incumbents Prevail, Library Referendum Passes

Voters also re-elected Village Clerk Janet Sirabian and chose the residents who will represent them on area school boards for the next four years.

Andrew Stein will be the new face on the Buffalo Grove Village Board, voters decided Tuesday. Stein was elected to a two-year term, beating competitor Denice Bocek 2,909 to 1,284, with all precincts in Cook and Lake counties tallied.

Meanwhile, Indian Trails Public Library’s referendum squeaked by, with 2,127 votes in favor and 1,983 against the proposal to raise the district’s tax levy. The funds will be used for a variety of facility improvements.

Voters largely decided to stay with status quo when it came to other village and school board positions.

Incumbent Village Clerk Janet Sirabian breezed her way to a ninth term with about 82 percent of the vote. Sirabian, who has held the position for 32 years, prevailed over challenger Rob Sherman 3,556 to 796.

Jeff Braiman will assume the role of village president following an uncontested race. Trustee candidates Jeff Berman, Mike Terson and Steven Trilling ran unopposed for four-year terms.

Incumbent candidates for ’s Board of Education won re-election, with Bruce Lubin, Terry Moons and Merv Roberts receiving about two-thirds of the vote. They will be joined on the board by David Weisberg, a newcomer who shared their campaign and earned more votes than any of the six other candidates. The four beat a slate of challengers: Kim Brady, Charles Cardella, and Kathy Powell.

In District 214, incumbents Bill Dussling and Alva Kreutzer were re-elected alongside campaign mate Dan Petro, who previously served on the District 25 School Board. The trio beat challengers Gloria Bowman and Audrey Collins.

In District 96, voters elected Elizabeth Dietz, Lauren Gordon and John Rouleau to the School Board. Dietz, who was appointed to the board last fall, was the top vote-getter (1,999), followed by Gordon (1,883). Rouleau secured re-election with 1,635 votes, receiving only 12 more votes than challenger Rick Hazan.

In District 102, incumbents Ellyn Ross (1,274 votes) and Steve Lefar (984) were elected to new terms along with newcomer Alan Rubenstein (1,095), beating out Scott Linn (822).
