Sheyman Raises Almost $110K for Congressional Run

Dold and McKenzie will wait to disclose fundraising results.

Waukegan community organizer announced Friday he raised nearly $110,000 in his campaign for the Democratic nomination to oppose in the 2012 race for the 10th Congressional District seat. 

Neither Dold nor Sheyman’s Democratic opponents— and —disclosed fundraising totals. They are required to do so with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) by July 15. 

A spokesperson for the Dold campaign said it planned to release its report July 15. McKenzie told Patch he would let people know how his fundraising effort was going soon. Schneider said he had a good quarter and would release the results of his effort by July 15.

“These contributions have come in because regular folks in the communities of the 10th District have rallied around this campaign,” Sheyman said of the more than 1,400 donors to his effort. “We’re proving that a progressive, grassroots campaign can also raise money.” 

Though Dold is waiting to release his fundraising results, he collected $374,707 through March 31 with $321,503 cash on hand, according to reports filed with the FEC.

Two years ago, fundraising totals were significantly less. had not yet decided to give up his Congressional seat to run for the Senate. 

The only Democratic candidate who then planned to run against Kirk was Highland Park attorney Elliot Richardson. As of June 30, 2009, Richardson raised $84,539, according to the FEC. 

Also as of June 30, 2009, neither Wilmette business consultant , who narrowly lost to Dold in the 2010 general election, nor former state Rep. Julie Hamos (D-Evanston) had announced their candidacies. 

Seals raised $11,567 through June 30, 2010, according to FEC reports. He edged Hamos in the 2010 Democratic primary. Richardson was a distant third. 

Four years ago, both Seals and former Clinton White House aide Jay Footlik announced their intentions to run against Kirk the 2008. Footlik raised $286,875 through June 30, 2007, according to FEC reports. Seals took in $250,073 during the same period. Seals notched a landslide victory over Footlik.
