One Injured in Atlanta School Shooting: How to Stop the Violence?

Do you believe Obama's gun control proposals will help prevent school shootings?

Another school shooting took place in Atlanta Thursday, the Huffington Post reports. A student opened fire at Price Middle School, shooting a 14-year-old in the neck before being stopped by an armed officer at the school.

The wounded boy was taken to a nearby hospital and later discharged, the website reports. The school does have metal detectors, and it’s unclear how the weapon got inside, Fox Atlanta reports.

This incident is the latest school shooting in recent months. Most notably, in Newtown, Conn. in December.

The Newtown shooting sparked a nationwide debate over gun control. President Obama made several proposals regarding the topic in mid-January.

Among the president's proposals were background checks for all gun sales, even those by private sellers, reinstating and strengthening the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 and limiting ammunition magazines to 10 rounds, the New York Times reported.

Read Obama's proposal in entirety.

The National Rifle Association feels schools will be safer with armed guards inside, NBC News reports. The NRA is now pushing for that to happen at schools nationwide.

The first congressional hearings on gun violence begin Wednesday.

What do you think needs to be done to stop school shootings? Do you agree with President Obama’s plan for gun control? Are you a fan of the NRA’s idea to have armed guards in schools? Tell us in the comments section.

Have 1 or more armed former military soldiers placed in every public school of this nation (or private schools which invite this protection) who have been specifically trained to deal with anyone attempting to break into the school or, if in the school, to harm anyone in the school by use of any type of weapons or use physcial violence or threaten physcial violence. I fully disagree with the President's plan for gun control. The President is oblivious to the obvious fact that he has an uncountable cadre of HEAVILY ARMED Secret Service body guards which guard him, his wife, his children 24/7/365 no matter where they go. Ditto for High ranking members of the U.S. Congress & Senate, many BIG SHOTS in large corporations + labor unions, entertainers. Just who protects the REST of us peons & riff-raff ? The President is clueless. Even if you dialed "911" for your local police, you would NOT have time to talk with the Dispatcher before the criminal was IN your bedroom or TV den. Just one handgun gives the man/woman in that house to protect him/herself and his/her family and to survive against any S.O.B. breaking into your house (or your car, or anywhere else you are) I am not a "fan" of the NRA I am not a "robot" of or for the NRA I am not a spokesman for the NRA But I am an ordinary member of the NRA. And I firmly believe the NRA is the only force in the United States that can and will sustain the 2nd Amendment to remain in the U.S. Constitution

A person steals guns, (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW), shoots and kills his own mother (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW), transports these guns loaded (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW), brings guns onto school property (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW), breaks into the school (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW), discharges the weapons within city limits (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW), murders 26 people (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW), and commits suicide (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW). And there are people in this country that somehow think passing ANOTHER LAW banning guns would protect us from someone like this. If you haven't noticed, people like this are not concerned about breaking laws - they only care about fulfilling their own twisted agenda.
