Mathias Recovering From Heart Surgery

State Rep. Sid Mathias plans to return soon to the campaign trail.

, State Rep. Sid Mathias (R-Buffalo Grove) underwent surgery to repair a congenital heart defect Aug. 24.

The procedure, performed at Northwestern University Hospital, replaced an aortic bi-cuspid valve with a tri-cuspid valve.

“I look forward to the upcoming campaign season and will resume campaigning as soon as possible. This will be a very competitive race, but I am energized by it and fully in it," Mathias said in a press release issued Aug. 29.

“Sid was healthy going into surgery and even healthier coming out,” Arlen Gould, Mathias’ campaign chairman, said in the release. “Doctors and Rep. Mathias agreed this was the optimal time to correct the problem.”
