Board President: Library Director's Resignation Was Expected

Indian Trails Public Library's board president said officials and Tom Simiele mutually agreed on last week's separation.

This week’s resignation of ’s director was a “mutual agreement” between Tom Simiele and the board of trustees, Board President Gene Looft said Saturday.

Details about the separation agreement are “obviously confidential,” but Simiele’s was not a surprise to the board, Looft said.

“We did agree that it would be a parting of the ways,” he said. “We appreciate the things Tom has done and we wish him well.”

Since Simiele was hired in September 2009, the library has opened the Prospect Heights Convenience Center, remodeled and updated the children’s department and expanded the library’s Internet presence, according to a press release. Under Simiele’s leadership, the library also .

Simiele could not be reached for comment.

Though assumes the role as Indian Trails’ interim director on Monday, Simiele will remain on call for assistance, Looft said.

“He’s available to us to help with the transition. You need some information now and then. Tom will be available, probably more by phone than in person,” Looft said.

Looft praised Madden’s expertise and said he expects no changes in the library’s daily operations as the interim director takes the helm and officials begin their search for a permanent leader.

“We have an outstanding staff at Indian Trails,” he said. [Library programs] will go on without missing a beat.”
