Lake County Property Taxes Due Sept. 6

Pay your bill on time to avoid a 1.5 percent late fee.

The second installment of Lake County property taxes is due Thursday, Sept. 6. A second bill will not be mailed to homeowners. Per Illinois statute, any payment received after the due date must include a 1.5 percent monthly penalty.

Payments can be mailed to the Lake County treasurer's office at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, IL 60085. Bills can also be paid online by credit card or e-check at www.lakecountyil.gov/treasurer. A processing fee will be charged by the processing company.

Other options include paying in person at most Lake County banks (find the complete list here) or by check through the drop boxes at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan or at the Libertyville campus off Winchester Road, a half block west of Milwaukee Avenue.

"The Treasurer's Office typically experiences long lines close to the property tax due date so I encourage taxpayers to take advantage of one of the alternative payment methods," said Lake County Treasurer Robert Skidmore. "Payments must be made or postmarked before September 6 in order to avoid paying penalties."

Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m Monday through Friday. On Sept. 6, the office will remain open until 7 p.m.
