Electoral Board to Hear from Stein, Battinus

Three Buffalo Grove officials will hold a hearing Monday regarding Andy Stein's objection to Jeff Battinus' nominating petitions.

Buffalo Grove’s electoral board will meet Monday to hear the objections filed to the nominating petitions of a resident who hopes to run for a trustee position this spring.

Trustee Andrew Stein, who is seeking re-election, filed an objection Wednesday to Jeffrey Battinus’ petitions after learning that Battinus did not file a statement of economic interests, which was part of the paperwork election candidates were required to file by Dec. 26.

The electoral board meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 7 at Village Hall. Members of the electoral board — Village President Jeff Braiman, Trustee Jeff Berman and Village Clerk Janet Sirabian — will hear from both sides before coming to a decision.

Should the electoral board sustain Stein’s objection, Battinus will have five days to request judicial review with the Cook County Circuit Court clerk. Battinus said Wednesday that he will not withdraw his candidacy. He filed his statement of economic interests on Jan. 2.

If Battinus is removed from the ballot, the April 9 trustee race will be uncontested. In addition to Stein, incumbents Beverly Sussman and Lester Ottenheimer are running for the three open seats.

OK, if Stein prevails in his petty objection, let's cancel the election since we will have only 3 candidates running for 3 seats. Why waste the money on an election? I know I will not bother to vote in a meaningless "election."

I won't bother to vote for Stein since he's the ONLY one contesting this candidate. Stein may be a one termer.

Doesn't anyoen else want to run for this Board? They are all becoming "lifers", and this "new downtown" project is going to ruin us.

It's a tuff job, so as you can see most will not run, but it really saddens me to hear people speak about our board members so poorly. Our board does a very good job; they work long and hard on tuff issues. I know and have worked with(liaisons for CRD) Beverly Sussman and Andy Stein personally and both think long and hard about all of their decisions. If you look back over the past few years and see what they were dealing with, I think you would be glad they were in charge and you didn’t have to deal with the issues they were dealing with. I again stand by my very first comment: rules are rules and they should not be broke! I hope that we have a chance to see Jeff in the village so that we can get to know him. I have been involved with the CRD for years as well as BG Days and have NEVER heard of Jeff. How can you run for a board if you have never been involved? I know that every year we see all of the board members during BG Days, if it’s not at the softball game then it surely is over the rest of the weekend. Almost all show up for Buddy Baseball(Saturday), Fun and Food(Monday).
