Crown Trophy Seeks New Home

Owner hopes to move the longtime Buffalo Grove business from a retail storefront to the village's industrial district.

After more than 15 years in Buffalo Grove, is looking for a new home.

Owner Charlene Berger said she hopes to keep the business in Buffalo Grove, where “we’ve been very happy.” She’s seeking permission to relocate from 400 W. Dundee Road to an industrial building on the 1300 block of Busch Parkway, a location that she said makes more sense for the business, which creates custom-ordered plaques and trophies.

“We’re just not a typical retailer,” Berger told village trustees this month. “We don’t have product on shelves to sell. Everything is custom ordered just like in a silkscreen shop or a sign company.

“I really don’t have walk-in customers and [moving] would lower my rent quite a bit,” she said.

The building in the industrial district also offers trucking docks and overhead doors, she said, and would be a better fit for the business, which can produce noise with its drills and saws.

Because the business would still offer a retail showroom, Berger needs a special use permit to relocate to the industrial district.

Trustees referred her request to the Plan Commission, which will consider the retail space, parking and traffic before sending its recommendation to the Village Board.
