Cambridge Commons Redevelopment to Begin This Summer

Exterior work will soon begin for the future Fresh Farms grocery store in Buffalo Grove.

Buffalo Grove’s Cambridge Commons shopping center cleared some final hurdles for its redevelopment plans Monday, when village officials approved sign requests for the site.

A seven-foot high wall sign on the façade will help bring attention to Fresh Farms, which will be the shopping center’s anchor tenant, developer Nick Vittore said. The sign will also feature the grocery store’s sun logo.

A ground sign will be placed in the northwest corner of the parking lot, which is located at the southeast corner of Dundee and Buffalo Grove roads. The sign will feature an LED message board that will change every 20 seconds.

Illinois Dental Center will remain in the shopping center, Vittore said. It has not yet been determined whether Little Caesars Pizza will continue to be a tenant. Additional tenants for the section of the shopping center that runs along Buffalo Grove Road have not yet been identified, Vittore said.

But that won’t prevent construction from getting underway, he said.

“You’ll see some action starting there soon,” Vittore said.

The developer’s architect and engineer are looking now at the redrawn plans of the building’s brick facade, Vittore said. He said he hopes to obtain construction permits from the village in the coming days.

“As soon as we get permits, we’re ready to get started there,” Vittore said.

Interior work on the anchor site, which formerly housed Rogan’s Shoes, could begin this fall, he said. It will likely take about a year and a half to complete the grocery store construction, he said.
