Cambridge Commons Improvement Discussions Slated for June 26

A week after Buffalo Grove officials rejected proposed façade improvements for the Cambridge Commons shopping center, saying the building would be too tall, a revised proposal could be in the works.

The Village Board has called a special meeting for 5:30 p.m. June 26 to discuss any proposed height modifications.

“I expect only consideration of a scaled back plan. The developer is working on something now,” Village Manager Dane Bragg wrote in a June 24 email to Patch.

The office of the developer, Svigos Asset Management, was closed for the day when Patch called, but developer Nick Vittore told the Tribune that he planned to meet this week with the architect and prospective tenant — expected to be a Fresh Farms grocery store — to determine if adjustments could be made.

Buffalo Grove trustees voted 4-2 last week against the developer’s initial proposal to nearly double the height of the façade above the entrance of the anchor spot. The curved roof reaches 30 feet at its highest point. The zoning code for that site allows for buildings up to 45 feet tall.

The developer, who asked to raise part of the roofline to 57 feet, was told to go back to the drawing board.

This week's agenda item is for discussion purposes only. Any official action would take place during the July 15 Village Board meeting.
