Buffalo Grove Village Board Briefs: Feb. 6

The following discussions and actions took place during this month's board meeting.

  • Trustees voted 5-1 to have the Plan Commission review a proposal to relocate off-track betting from Adam's Roadhouse to Village Bar & Grill.
  • School District 96 Superintendent Julie Schmidt presented School Resource Coordinator Staci Kupsak, of the Buffalo Grove Police Department, with the District 96 foundation’s  Champion for Children award for her dedication to students, staff and parents.
  • Village Clerk Janet Sirabian reminded voters who will be out of town March 20 to pick up absentee ballots from Cook and Lake counties. Feb. 21 is the last day to register to vote in the primary. Sirabian noted that residents who do not want to vote on primary candidates can still vote on the village’s electricity aggregation referendum without declaring a political affiliation.
  • Shari Ginsberg was appointed to the Arts Commission.
  • Leisa Niemotka, assistant to the village manager, presented the village’s new performance appraisal program which includes goals, key competencies, professional development and performance ratings.
  • The Board approved the village’s 2012 work plan, which outlines goals pertaining to strategy, efficiency, culture and technology.
  • Trustees approved a Class E license for Deerfields Bakery, which gives the restaurant permission to serve beer and wine to diners.
  • Trustees approved a two-year contract with Melrose Pyrotechnics for its 2012 and 2012 fireworks displays on July 4 and Labor Day weekend. Each display will cost $20,000. The village will seek sponsors to help offset the expense.
  • Trustees approved an intergovernmental agreement with Arlington Heights, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Palatine, Vernon Hills and Wheeling for the electric aggregation program that will be adopted if the March 20 referendum is approved by voters. Under the agreement, the municipalities will share resources and expenses, including up to $7,000 in legal fees. Buffalo Grove will serve as the bid coordinator for the towns. Also approved was an expenditure of up to $20,750, which will be shared by the seven towns, to contract with Intelligent Power Partners. The company will provide a consultant who will help develop a plan, lead public hearings, assist in selecting a supplier if the proposal is approved and help monitor contract compliance.
  • Trustees approved a second-year contract with St. Aubin Nursery for the village’s 2012 parkway tree replacement. The village has budgeted $30,000 for the project.
