Why are you running for a Village Board position?

I am running for Village Trustee because I can make a difference. I will bring an independent voice to the Village Board. I am an active participant in the community and will bring new and innovative ideas to the Village Board.

What are the key issues that the village will have to address in the next four years?

Buffalo Grove will need to address several issues:

1) A great deal of the issues are business related.

Stabilize and grow existing business.

We need to focus on helping existing businesses stay in business.

Attract new businesses to Buffalo Grove

The 2011 Economic Development Work Plan is good but it doesn’t go far enough. Perhaps, we need to be more aggressive and consider a full time position created to recruit business to Buffalo Grove.

2) Examine the Weiland Road/Prairie Road project

I would like to examine the traffic flow projections for the Weiland Road and Prairie Road portions of this project. In view of recent changes and a drop in population, the original projections may no longer be accurate.

3) Amend the Fence Code

Residents should have the option to erect a six foot fence without having to go through the process of applying for a variance.

What are your top three goals as a board member?

My top three goals as a Board Member are:

1) Support existing businesses in Buffalo Grove

2) Develop a new, comprehensive plan to recruit businesses to Buffalo Grove.

3) Encourage even more residents to volunteer in the Village.

What are some of the village’s strengths?

The greatest strengths of the Village come from the dedicated staff, employees, volunteers and elected officials. It takes many elements to make a Village a success. Buffalo Grove has been acknowledged as one of the best places in the United States to live. Both Moody’s and Standard and Poors  have awarded Buffalo Grove with their highest bond ratings. Buffalo Grove also has award winning parks and schools. As you can see, the Village has many strengths.

What do you think can be done to improve the village?

Unfortunately, we are in very challenging economic times. We can improve the Village by bringing new businesses to Buffalo Grove. We need a more aggressive plan, one that includes marketing and outreach. Hiring a person dedicated to this cause might help us reach our goal.

What distinguishes you from the rest of the Village Board members?

The Village Board members are all unique in the experience that they bring to the position. I also would bring a unique background. I am a Compliance Principal in my professional life. My focus is to protect the public. I am an independent voice and bring dedication, service and experience to the Village of Buffalo Grove. I am the Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 36 in Buffalo Grove, I volunteer for the Commission for Residents with Disabilities and volunteer for the Vernon Township Food Pantry. As a married father of two young children, I will bring a focus on looking at how we can make the Village better for their future. All of this distinguishes me as an individual and as a potential Village Trustee.
