Police Blotter: Woodchip Shredder Stolen, TV and Dumb Bells Found

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A resident of the 300 block of Windsor Drive reported someone was shooting a rifle out of a second-story window at 4 p.m. Aug. 6. Officers spoke with the subject, who stated that he was shooting his BB gun at a can in his backyard. The subject was advised of the prohibition against the use of any weapon in the village. The subject was apologetic and he assured officers that this would not happen again.

A cab driver reported at 4:35 a.m. Aug. 7 that his rider was highly intoxicated, could not tell the driver his address, and the driver was concerned that the rider would refuse to pay the $73.60 fare. An officer determined the rider’s address, took the rider home and had the rider pay the fare. 

DRUGS

An officer stopped a vehicle at 1:40 a.m. Aug. 7 at Old Arlington Heights and Dundee roads that had four passengers in the back seat, none of whom were wearing a seatbelt. An odor of cannabis came from the car and the department’s drug-sniffing dog located a clear plastic bag containing cannabis under the passenger seat. The driver was cited, a 15-year-old passenger from Arlington Heights was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and curfew violation, and the other four youths were turned over to their parents. 

MISSING PERSON

A resident reported Aug. 6 that her daughter has not come home for several nights. The girl’s father lives in Hoffman Estates and he is out of the country. Hoffman Estates police checked the father’s residence and found the girl along with two other juveniles in the house. All three were charged with trespassing at the request of the father. 

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/VEHICLE

A citizen reported two male subjects at a business on the 1-100 block of North Buffalo Grove Road at 5:35 p.m. Aug. 6 who were acting in such a manner that she believed them to be under the influence of drugs. An officer located the subjects, had a discussion with them and determined that they were not under the influence of any substance. 

A resident of the 1100 block of Johnson Drive reported at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 6 that a silver Honda Civic had been driving in the area for the past 15 minutes. The resident believed the driver to be a person he has had a confrontation with. The vehicle was gone from the area when police arrived.

THEFT

A resident of the 600 block of Sycamore Road reported that someone took his MTD woodchip shredder from his driveway between Aug. 2-5. The shredder is valued at $500. 

A complainant reported that he placed his personal property including his cell phone on the ground while he was skating at the skate park at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6. The complainant noted two people on bikes come by for a few minutes. When they left, the complainant noted that his cell phone was gone. An officer checked the area but could not locate anyone. 

VANDALISM

A resident of the 200 block of Navajo Trail reported that someone placed a television and two dumb bells on her front lawn between 9-11 p.m. Aug. 6. The resident also stated that a few days earlier, someone threw a liquid substance on the side of the house. 

WELL-BEING CHECK

A citizen reported a young boy placing a ladder against a house and attempting to climb on the roof at 3:55 a.m. Aug. 7. Officers spoke with the resident who stated that her son is autistic and has a fascination with climbing. The issue is enhanced in the summer due to a lack of a regular schedule. The report has been forwarded to Crime Prevention for follow up.
