Police Blotter: Wallet Stolen from Cart, iPhone Taken at eSkape

ABANDONED VEHICLE

A gas station official reported an abandoned blue 2001 Volkswagen Jetta on the property at 10 p.m. Aug. 12. Attempts to contact the registered owner, who resides in Highland Park, failed. The official will have the vehicle towed from the private property. 

BURGLARY

A resident of the 100 block of Toulon Drive reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle between 9 p.m. Aug. 11 and 9 a.m. Aug. 12 and removed 10 Disney on Ice tickets from his wife’s purse, which was on the passenger seat. The purse was found in a neighbor’s yard. Nothing else was reported missing. 

COMPLAINTS

A landscaper reported he was working at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 10 on the 1000 block of Cambridge Drive when a neighbor yelled at him for blowing grass and leaves. The neighbor lives four houses away. The neighbor used a racial slur while yelling at the landscaper. An officer spoke with the intoxicated neighbor who denied using racial comments and agreed to leave the landscapers alone. 

A resident of the 300 block of Foxford Drive reported that as the family entered their car at 1 p.m. Aug. 11, a neighbor began yelling and swearing at them. The neighbor stated they will get theirs and the game is on. The resident requested a watch on his home while the family is away. A watch was initiated. 

A driver reported that he pulled over to the curb lane to allow a group of motorcyclists to pass and then he moved back into the median lane at 7:40 p.m. Aug. 11 at McHenry and Lake-Cook roads. A lone rider was then behind the complainant and that rider took exception from being cut off from his group and yelled at the complainant. A red pickup truck, apparently with the lone rider, then cut the complainant off. An officer left a message for the driver of the truck. 

A complex association on the 1100 block of Fremont Way was hosting a live band on the patio near the pool on Aug. 11 and the event was scheduled to end at midnight. Upon a second return by an officer at 10 p.m., the association president was asked to shut the party down. He complied. 

A resident of the 600 block of Harris Drive reported at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 12 that her neighbor was videotaping the resident’s backyard. One camera was pointed at the fence and the other at the open area between the yards. The neighbor stated that the cameras were installed because the resident’s dog runs into her yard and that she had a window broken. The neighbor has recorded the resident walking in her yard and looking at the neighbor’s house. Officer reviewed the video and found that neither camera was recording the resident’s yard. The resident was advised that if the dog continues to go into the neighbor’s yard, they will be cited. 

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES

A business owner on the 300 block of West Half Day Road reported that a customer wrote a check for $111 on a closed account on June 7. The customer was contacted and she promised to pay the amount, but has not done so. Police checked her residence and found that she has moved to New York City. 

DISTURBANCE

A resident of the 1-100 block of Columbus Parkway reported that a neighbor came to his house at 4 p.m. Aug. 10 and accused his son from taking medications from the purse of an acquaintance. The resident told the neighbor to leave and an argument followed. An officer spoke with the neighbor who agreed to stay away from the resident. 

A resident of the 1-100 block of Columbus Parkway reported two male subjects were yelling at each other at 2:15 p.m. Aug. 12. An officer spoke with one of the subjects who stated that a neighbor came by and accused him of taking items from his home. Both subjects were told to stay away from each other. 

LOST ITEM

A complainant reported that she lost her iPhone 4S which was in a black case between 4:30-5 p.m. Aug. 12 at . She said that she went online to track the phone and it was last identified in an area in Wheeling.  

OUTSIDE ASSIST 

A dispatcher reported at 5:20 a.m. Aug. 12 that an armed robbery had just occurred in Schaumburg involving three offenders driving a black limousine. An officer noted a black limousine traveling on Dundee Road near Betty Drive. The license plate matched that of the one dispatched. A felony stop was made, and the three suspects were turned over to Illinois state troopers. 

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Jennifer L. Miramonti, 25, of the 1400 block of East Olive, Palatine, was charged with criminal damage to property at 10:20 p.m. Aug. 9 after officers responded to a report of two people arguing in a parking lot on the 300 block of North McHenry Road. A male subject told police that a woman stepped out in front of his car, not at a crosswalk, and he slammed on his brakes. The woman then walked up to the car and struck the hood, leaving several dents. 

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A resident of the 2400 block of Madiera Lane reported that he found an anonymous letter taped to the front door at 6 p.m. Aug. 10. The letter mentioned a Sony PlayStation 3 group, and listed the resident’s family members. It is unknown who left the letter. 

A resident of the 500 block of Elmwood Drive reported handprints were left in the dust of a window at the rear of the house between 8 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10 p.m. Aug. 10. An officer found no signs of force on the window and the prints were smeared, leaving no ridge definition. 

A employee reported two male subjects attempted a quick change scam at the register at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 12. The employee did not fall for the scam and the subjects departed. There is a video security recording of the incident. 

A resident told police Aug. 12 that an acquaintance housesat for her while she was out of town for the weekend. She had asked the acquaintance to use the guest bedroom. When she returned home, she found items in her bedroom that did not belong to her and the bed was messy. An officer spoke with the acquaintance, who stated that he used the guest bedroom and was never in the resident’s bedroom. 

THEFT

A customer reported that she was shopping in the produce section with her cart a short distance away at 2:05 p.m. Aug. 10. Her purse was sitting in the cart. When she returned to the cart, she found the purse open and her wallet missing. The wallet contained $30 cash, a credit card, driver’s license and Social Security card. 

A resident reported at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 10 that she discovered her prescription medications missing from her purse. She last saw the medications at 1 a.m., when she was staying at a friend’s home. Nothing else was missing from the purse. An officer spoke with the friend, who accused a neighbor of taking the medications. The medications are valued at $150. 

An official reported three male subjects that dined and dashed and were last seen walking toward at 2 a.m. Aug. 12. The loss was $45.05. An officer located three male subjects but was told that those were not the offenders. No other people were located. 

Someone took the radio antenna from a Toyota Rav4 between 5 p.m. Aug. 11 and noon Aug. 12 on the 1200 block of East Deerfield Parkway.

WELL-BEING CHECK

An ex-husband told police at 11:35 a.m. Aug. 10 that his daughter said her mother is missing. The mother’s car was in the parking lot of her employer, but she has not reported to work. An officer checked the mother’s Buffalo Grove residence and found it to be vacant. An officer spoke with the employer, who verified that the mother has not reported to work and stated that she now lives in Mount Prospect. A missing person report will be filed in Mount Prospect. 

A resident of the 1100 block of Windbrooke Drive reported an 8-year-old girl knocking on a patio door below the resident at 9:20 a.m. Aug. 11. The girl was crying. The resident believes the parents lock the girl out and that they have done this before. An officer spoke with the neighbor who stated that he was giving the girl a time out. Officers suggested other places in the home for a time out. The girl appeared to be fine.
