Police Blotter: Two Charged with Theft from Dominick's

ALARM
Officers responded to an active alarm at 2:45 p.m. March 20 on the 600 block of Vernon Lane and found a rear door unsecured. Officers checked the interior of the home and found no one inside; nothing appeared out of place. Officers contacted the resident and secured the door.

A resident reported March 20 that he and his fiancée had received numerous cell calls and rude and offensive text messages from his ex-sister-in-law. An officer called the ex-sister-in-law and left a message.
THEFT

Frederick A. Stevens, 76, of the 3200 block of North Volz Drive, Arlington Heights, was charged with Class 4 felony retail theft after loss-prevention staff reported he took multiple new-release DVDs from at 9:15 a.m. March 20. Stevens previously was recorded on security video doing the same thing, police said.
Edward Merlin, 27, of the 1-100 block of Sunridge Lane, Buffalo Grove, was charged with Class 4 felony retail theft after loss-prevention staff reported he put merchandise in his cart and left without paying at 12:10 p.m. March 20.
