Police Blotter: Two Charged with Felony Theft from CVS

ALCOHOL

Ahmed I. Saleh, 20, of the 700 block of Greenwood Road, Northbrook, was charged with possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor at 12:10 a.m. May 18 in a parking lot on the 100 block of North McHenry Road. 

ANIMALS

A resident of the 400 block of Gregg Lane reported at 7 p.m. May 17 that a dog, left by a former tenant, bit his sister, who was seeking medical attention at a local hospital. The resident wants the dog removed. An officer will follow up with the victim.

COMPLAINT

The received an anonymous letter May 17 stating that the residents at a specific address had not cleaned up their front yard for more than a year. An officer responded to the residence and found patchy grass and bags of mulch piled in the driveway. Nothing observed by the officer was in violation of any village ordinance.

A resident reported a man soliciting without a permit at 6:20 p.m. May 17 on Springside Court. An officer located the man, who stated he was soliciting work for College Pro Painters, but did not have a permit. He was advised to stop and get a permit.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES

A complainant reported May 17 that there is a listing on Zillow for a house to rent in Buffalo Grove. When he answered the listing, he received an email asking for $1,100 in rent and a $1,100 deposit. When the complainant went to see the house, he found the owners there. They stated that they had already rented the home and the listing on Zillow was fictitious.

LOST/FOUND ITEMS

A complainant reported that while shopping May 15 at , her black wallet fell out of her purse. The wallet contained cash, credit cards and other important forms of identification. Store personnel said that no wallet was turned in. The complainant will make all necessary notifications.

An official at reported finding a checkbook on the store counter at 3 p.m. May 17. An officer located a phone number and notified the resident that his checkbook was at the police station.

REQUEST FOR STANDBY

A resident reported at 7:20 p.m. May 17 that his ex-girlfriend called him to say that she will be coming to his apartment, and he did not want her there. When officers escorted the resident to his home, the ex was not there. Locks to the apartment have been changed.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT/PERSON

A citizen reported a suspicious man sitting in a vehicle at 8:30 a.m. May 17 at the . An officer spoke with the man, who stated that he is currently homeless, and was given permission by the township to sleep in his car. An officer spoke with the township assistance case worker, who stated she is working with the man and did give him permission.

A resident of the 500 block of LaSalle Lane reported that while her children were playing in front of the house at 7:20 p.m. May 17, a vehicle stopped and the male driver yelled, “Mom, watch your kids” and then drove off. It was determined that the driver was a neighbor who was concerned because the kids were on the sidewalk unsupervised.

THEFT

A complainant reported that five rings went missing between May 3-17 from her mother’s jewelry box, which was on top of a dresser at . The rings were valued at $3,000. Police said many people have access to that room and the door was not locked.

A manager received a call at 2 p.m. May 17 from an Arlington Heights officer who had three people in custody who had merchandise in their possession and no receipt. A review of security cameras showed two of the three people removing items from the shelves and placing them into bags. The merchandise was valued at $2,606.35. Buffalo Grove police filed felony theft charges against Maria I. Diaz, 47, of the 1800 block of West 21st Street, Chicago, and Melanie C. Marmolejo, 34, of the 1800 block of West 37th Street, Chicago.

A resident of the 900 block of Plum Grove Circle reported that he returned from a fishing trip and unloaded his gear, placing it on the parkway at 8:45 p.m. May 17. He went into the house and when he returned 10 minutes later, all of his gear was gone.
