Police Blotter: Thefts from Dominick's, Teens Accused of Burglarizing Cars

ALARM

Officers responded to an active alarm at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 on the 1-100 block of Dellmont Court and found that all doors and windows on the first floor were secure and two windows were open on the second floor. The resident returned to the house and requested an interior check. Officers found no one inside and all in order. 

ALCOHOL

Ronald H. Dietz, 63, of the 3200 block of North Volz Drive East, Arlington Heights, was charged with driving under the influence, improper turn at intersection and violation of restricted driver’s license at 11:55 a.m. Dec. 3 on Dundee Road at Betty Drive.

ANIMALS

A resident reported that while walking her dog at 4:15 p.m. Dec. 3 near Fox Hill Drive and Fox Court East, a black lab came running from a yard and jumped on her dog. The owner of the lab then came out of his house and retrieved the dog The resident stated that she became frightened and let her dog run home. The owner of the black lab was cited. The other dog was not injured. 

A citizen reported that he was riding his bicycle when a boxer, being walked by its owner, broke free and ran in front of the his bicycle at 4:40 p.m. Dec. 3 near East Pauline Avenue and North Eugene. The bike rider fell off and sustained three broken ribs and injuries to his hands. Police will follow up on the incident.

BURGLARY

A resident reported seeing boys entering vehicles between 5-9:40 p.m. Dec. 3 in the area of Ashland Court and Auburn Lane. Two 15-year-olds were located and detained. Stolen property was recovered, some of which was returned to the owners. The remainder was placed into property at police headquarters. The boys were turned over to their parents.

COMPLAINT

A complainant reported that he told a driver that he was parked in a fire lane at 2:15 p.m. Dec. 4 at Subway, and the driver told the complainant that it was none of his business. The driver also stated that if the complainant confronts him again, he will do bodily harm. Officers located the driver in the parking lot, and because the complainant did not want to sign a complaint, the driver was sent on his way. 

DRUGS

Jacobe E. Umoren, 20, of the 900 block of Westmoreland Street, Vernon Hills, was charged with possession of cannabis and failure to yield turning left at 6:45 p.m. Dec. 4 on Lake-Cook Road at Raupp Boulevard.

LOST/FOUND PROPERTY

A complainant on the 1300 block of West Dundee Road reported that Christmas decorations had been left behind the business between Dec. 1-3. An officer retrieved the decorations and placed them into property at police headquarters. 

A resident reported that she lost her black leather wallet during her commute to work in Chicago between 7-9 a.m. Nov. 30. The resident was advised that her debit card has been used in Chicago. The wallet contained an Illinois driver’s license, two credit cards, a debit card, $100 cash, a library card and a health insurance card.

A resident reported finding a black and chrome Blackberry cell phone at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 4 on the 1100 block of Larraway Drive. An officer found that the battery and sim card had been removed from the phone. The phone was placed into property at police headquarters. 

PHONE HARASSMENT

A resident reported Dec. 3 that a former boyfriend is sending unwanted messages to her calling her names. The resident had a previous order of protection against the ex and will attempt to have it reinstated. 

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENTS

A security officer at Dominick’s spotted a woman leaving the store with a shopping cart full of unbagged groceries at 5:45 p.m. Dec. 3. When the security officer confronted the woman and asked if she needed assistance, she said no and drove off. A police officer went to the residence of the registered owner of the vehicle and found no one at home. 

A babysitter reported that when she arrived at a residence at 2:45 p.m. Dec. 4 on the 700 block of Kingsbridge Way, she found the front door open. Officers checked the interior and found no one inside and all was in order. 

THEFT

A loss prevention official at Dominick’s reported that a man took merchandise and left the store without paying at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2. The official chased and apprehended the offender. The merchandise was located in the offender’s backpack. Police charged Roderick A. Dunwell Jr., 23, of the 400 block of James Court, Glendale Heights, with
retail theft, possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver.

A resident reported Dec. 1 that someone hacked into her email account, eBay account and PayPal account. Numerous transactions were made, but the resident was able to cancel all of them. The resident has changed all of her passwords, and has spoken with the fraud departments of all three companies. 

A resident of the 2400 block of Overview Drive reported that her dry cleaner delivered her clothing and hung it on the front door at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 3. When the resident returned home at 3 p.m., the clothing was missing. The bag contained a man’s suit, three dress shirts and a pair of woman’s slacks. 

A resident reported that someone used the routing number of his checking account to pay bills to two cell phone providers between Oct. 29 and Dec. 4. The resident recently evicted two tenants and had written them a refund check. Those tenants have cell phone accounts with the two cell providers. The resident also stated that the tenants had taken the appliances from the property that did not belong to them. 

A loss prevention official at Dominick’s reported seeing on security video a man take a food item and enter the restroom at 4:20 p.m. Dec. 4. When the man exited, he no longer had the food item. The official confronted the man who stated that the food item was rotten and he threw it out. The official checked the restroom and did not find the item and when he returned to speak with the man, he was gone.
