Police Blotter: Thefts At Dominick's, Watchful Neighbors

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident reported Sept. 13 that his daughter took the car to her boyfriend’s house and the boyfriend’s little sister scratched the car. The report was made for insurance purposes.

A resident accidentally severed a power line while replacing his mailbox post on Sept. 14. Public Works responded.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT/PERSON

A UPS driver attempted to hand an officer a baggie containing a white powdery substance at 10 a.m. Sept. 14 on the 900 block of West Dundee Road. When the officer realized what the driver was attempting to hand him, the officer pulled his hand back, causing the baggie to land on his lap and spill some of the contents. The driver stated that he found the bag in a parking lot across from the . The powder tested negative for a controlled substance or hazardous material.

A resident of the 200 block of Willow Parkway reported at 4 p.m. Sept. 14 that a man had used a tool to open a rear window of neighboring house. An officer spoke with the man, who stated that he had been hired by the owners of the foreclosed property and was asked to change the locks and winterize the home. The officer verified this and advised the man to contact the police desk in the future when he has to force entry into a residence.

A loss-prevention official at reported at 9:20 p.m. Sept. 14 there was a person in the store wanted by area police departments for retail theft. The person left the store without paying for a package of cookies. The person was arrested and turned over to the Palatine Police Department for a pending case.

A resident reported Sept. 14 that someone opened two utility accounts using her identification. The resident has contacted the three credit bureaus and had the accounts closed.

A loss-prevention officer at reported a female shopper paid for part of the merchandise in her shopping cart at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 14. She was given the opportunity to pay for the items and was instructed not to return to the store.

WELL-BEING CHECK

A resident reported Sept. 14 that he was concerned because he had not seen his neighbors in a few days. Officers checked the home, found it secure and observed nothing unusual.

A resident called 911 on Sept. 14 because his caregiver would not tell him what his medication was for. An officer called the doctor who issued the medication and he explained what it was for. The resident was satisfied.

A resident reported people going in and out of a van at 3:05 a.m. Sept. 15 in a parking lot on the 1-100 block of South Buffalo Grove Road. Officers found that a neighbor had rented the van and was loading it to take his family on a trip.
