Police Blotter: Temple Burglarized, Dominick's Thieves Caught on Tape

ANIMALS

A resident reported that as she was walking at 12:05 p.m. April 23 on the 1300 block of Weiland Road, a man and a black Lab passed her. As they passed, the dog jumped at the resident and bit her in the arm. The wounds required stitches. An officer located the man and his dog, verified rabies vaccination, and presented the owner with the dog bite instructions.

BURGLARY

An official at reported that someone entered the synagogue between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. April 23 and took donations out of three cans, two located at the entrance and one on a table. The cash was valued at $30 to $50. There were no signs of forced entry; however, a secondary door does not lock securely and can be forced open. Two men were seen leaving the building.

A resident who answered an email to become a mystery shopper received three American Express Traveler notes each for $500 on April 23. A letter instructed the resident to deposit the three notes into his account, keep $200, and send the remainder via a certified check to an address in the Philippines. The resident then received another email asking if the notes arrived. When the resident responded that the notes were no good, he received an email stating that new ones would be sent overnight. The resident suspected this to be a scam. Police confirmed it was.

SUSPICIOUS/HARASSING PHONE CALLS

A resident received a call April 23 from a person claiming to be from “Card Services” and asked if the resident had credit cards. When the resident asked for company information and a callback number, the caller hung up.

A resident reported April 23 that she has an order of protection against her ex-boyfriend with a no-contact clause. Her phone rings constantly but no one says anything. Caller ID indicates Private, but the resident suspects the ex. The resident will change her phone number.

THEFT

A loss-prevention official at reported that surveillance video from April 21 showed a man and woman taking containers of formula, placing them into a backpack and leaving the store without paying. They drove off in a red Pontiac coupe.

A loss-prevention official at reported that surveillance video from April 23 showed a woman accompanied by a man take merchandise out of a box and then leave the store without paying. They drove off in a red Pontiac with an Illinois license plate.

A resident found her debit card missing from her wallet and discovered that it had been used four times for a total of $175 between April 20 and April 21. The card has been canceled.
