Police Blotter: Teens Charged with Marijuana Possession

ANIMALS

A resident reported a black shepherd and husky mix puppy was lying on the parkway at 6:35 a.m. May 12 at St. Mary’s Parkway and Cottonwood Road. An officer found the puppy, which had a green collar without tags and a red leash. No microchip was located and the puppy was taken to Kings Kennel. 

BATTERY

A complainant reported that while on the dance floor at the night of May 9, he was grabbed from behind and head-butted by a male patron. The complainant was then confronted by two additional people, and one of them punched the complainant in the chest. The complainant wants to pursue criminal charges.

Thomas W. Anderson, 42, of the 1-100 block of South Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove, was charged with domestic battery at 12:15 a.m. May 13 on the 1-100 block of Buffalo Grove Road.

BURGLARY

A resident of the 500 block of Parkview Terrace reported that someone entered his house and removed his Xbox from his upstairs bedroom between 7:30 and 11:35 p.m. May 11. Nothing else was missing from the house. There were no signs of forced entry.

COMPLAINTS

A resident reported May 11 that no one is taking care of the grass and weeds at a bank-owned house on the 700 block of Aspen Drive. An officer observed the grass and weeds in violation of village ordinance. The officer contacted the management company, which advised the grass would be cut May 15 and every two weeks following. The officer advised the management company that every two weeks may not be enough and the company indicated that would be taken under advisement. The officer will follow up.

Two drivers had a dispute after one swerved into the lane of the other, almost causing a crash at 8 p.m. May 12 on the 200 block of Milwaukee Avenue. The drivers confronted each other in a parking lot and one made threats and used profanity. Both were admonished and no complaints were signed.

DRUGS
 
A resident of Old Oak Court East reported a group of people outside by the pond at 11:10 p.m. May 11 and believed that they were drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. Officers located the people and noted a plastic bag on the ground and a glass pipe next to it. The contents of the bag field-tested positive for cannabis. Charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia were Viren M. Mascarenhas, 18, of the 400 block of Buckthorn Terrace, Buffalo Grove; Daniel P. Melnick, 18, of the 20600 block of Horatio Boulevard, Prairie View; and a 17-year-old Buffalo Grove resident.

IMPROPER SECURITY

A resident reported a door ajar on a unit that was in foreclosure at 12:20 p.m. May 12 on the 1000 block of Pinetree Circle North. An officer checked and found the unit in order but could not secure the door. The realty company was notified.

LOST/FOUND ITEM

An individual gave an officer a black clutch purse that he found at at 2:10 p.m. May 12. The officer determined the purse belonged to a resident and returned it to her.

A resident reported the loss of his black trifold wallet between 9:45 and 10:15 a.m. May 11 in the Plaza Verde shopping center. The wallet contained a driver’s license, a firearm owner’s identification card, $120 in cash, a medical card and various credit cards.

A resident reported May 13 that he had his brown trifold wallet while shopping at , but when he returned home, he could not find it. The resident retraced his steps without success. The resident called later to state that his wallet was found at the store.

PHONE HARASSMENT/THREAT

A company official on the 1400 block of Busch Parkway reported two phone calls between May 10 and May 11 from a person who she believes is a terminated employee. The caller asked immature questions on the first call and yelled obscenities on the second call. An officer called the terminated employee, who denied making the calls, but agreed not to make any or go to the business.

A resident received two calls May 13 from a person asking for an individual who the resident does not know, and told the caller he had the wrong number. The caller then used profanity and threatened harm. An officer attempted to get identification of the caller’s number.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

While on patrol at 11:40 p.m. May 11 on the 300 block of Horatio Boulevard, an officer noted a large mailbox that had been blown up by an unknown explosive device. No one was home at the residence and the officer left a note.

A resident reported that someone snapped three small trees three feet up from the ground between 9 p.m. May 11 and 10 a.m. May 12 in Canterbury Park. The report will be forwarded to the .

A resident of the 600 block of Bernard Drive reported that someone used red and green markers to write on the siding of the house, the railing and front door glass between 8 p.m. May 12 and 9:45 a.m. May 13. The vandal also trampled all the flowers in the backyard. The resident believes this incident may be connected to issues her daughters has with some other students. The school resource officer will be notified.

A resident of the 2600 block of Acacia Terrace reported that the glass in the front storm door was broken between 7 p.m. May 11 and noon May 12. The resident’s home faces the golf course and a number of balls were in his front yard.

THEFT

A cab driver reported that he transported two people throughout the suburbs resulting in a fare of $123. When he dropped the riders off at 1:10 a.m. May 1 on the 1-100 block of West Dundee Road, one took off and the other had no money. An officer spoke with the one rider, who was intoxicated on drugs and stated he wanted to harm himself. The cab driver chose not to sign complaints, and the paramedics transported the rider to the hospital.

A resident of the 2100 block of Brandywyn Lane reported that someone removed a flower pot from his front porch between 7:30 p.m. May 10 and 7:20 a.m. May 11. The pot is valued at $60.

A resident received notification from her bank that two withdrawals were made from her account, on May 11. One withdrawal was for $4,000 and other one was $4,850. The withdrawals were made in person at banks in New York. The resident did not authorize the withdrawals and knows no one in New York. The bank has closed the account and will follow up.

A resident of the 2500 block of Live Oak Lane reported that when he went to his garage at 8:30 a.m. May 12, he found the door open and his golf bag missing. The golf bag, clubs and miscellaneous items are valued at $1,125.

OTHER INCIDENTS
 
An officer recovered a license plate and bracket from the intersection of Lake-Cook and McHenry roads at 3 p.m. May 11. The owner was notified and the plate and bracket were placed into property.

A resident received a notification from an email provider May 12 requesting that she verify her email account and password, which she did. The resident then found that the request was not legitimate. Her family then began receiving emails requesting money. None was sent.
