Police Blotter: Stranger Takes Checks from Mailbox

CIVIL MATTER

A resident told police Dec. 19 that he has a contract with a handyman to do some repairs in his home. The resident paid money upfront, and was to pay additional money when the repairs were completed. Some, but not all of the repairs were done, and the handyman has not returned to complete the rest. The resident was advised that the handyman had been arrested for home repair fraud the previous week. 

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A complainant reported that an unoccupied home that he owns on the 300 block of Hawthorne Road was damaged between Oct. 31 and Dec. 19 by someone who pushed in both garage doors. The house remained secure.

THEFT

A resident of the 1-100 block of Linden Avenue reported that a small black car pulled up to her curbside mailbox at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 19 and removed two letters that contained personal checks. The mail was in the box for pickup by the mailman. The resident has canceled the checks.

An employee on the 300 block of Hastings Drive reported that someone took her black purse from her unlocked locker between 2:30-11 p.m. Dec. 18. The purse contained her passport, makeup, medical cards and $30.
