Police Blotter: Stolen Liquor, Electronics, Bike

ANIMALS

A resident of the 1400 block of Fairfax Lane reported a cat sleeping near his front door. An officer retrieved the cat, found no collar, tag or chip, and transported the cat to Kings Kennel.

BURGLARY

A resident of the 100 block of Glendale Road reported someone entered her home and took a laptop computer, a camcorder and bottles of liquor between 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. June 21. The house was checked and no one was found inside.

COMPLAINTS

A resident reported June 21 that she has asked a contractor working on her deck not to park his truck on the newly resurfaced driveway. The contractor has ignored her request. An argument ensued and the contractor has not returned to complete the work.

A resident reported June 21 that someone posted a picture of her on a website with unkind comments. The resident requested that the police shut down that website. The resident was advised to contact the website and have the posting removed.

A resident reported a large group of youths was fighting at 6:15 p.m. June 21 on the 1-100 block of Oak Creek Drive. Officers located a number of youths who said no one had been fighting and that they were playing basketball. None of the youths had any signs of a fight.

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

Jennifer N. Shimanski, 31, of the 1200 block of Quincy Court, Wheeling, was charged with possession of a controlled substance at 4:30 p.m. June 21 at her home after reportedly calling in prescriptions to using someone else’s identification.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES

The owner of a restaurant on the 900 block of South Buffalo Grove Road reported that someone called in an order for 12 pizzas at 5:45 p.m. June 21. The owner called the number back to verify the order and the person who answered the phone stated it was correct. When the driver went to the address, there was no one at home.

FOUND ITEMS

A resident reported finding a wallet and sunglasses in the middle of the intersection of University Drive and Selwyn Lane at 9:35 a.m. June 21. The property was returned to its owner.

A resident reported finding a cardboard box containing two pairs of headphones and a remote control at 9 a.m. June 21 at Sheridan Road and Wilshire Court. The box was marked with GMC 9066. The box and contents were placed into property.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Someone damaged a mailbox between 3 and 6:15 a.m. June 21 on the 400 block of Claret Drive.

The rear window of a vehicle was broken while it was parked on the 800 block of Cambridge Drive between 7 and 10 p.m. June 20. There was nothing to indicate how the window broke.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/INCIDENT

A resident of the 2900 block of Kingston Drive reported that a man came into foyer at 3:15 p.m. June 21 and stated that he was there to work on the floors. The resident advised that no one was hired to do any work and the man left. An officer located a flooring van and spoke to the driver, who stated that he had been given the wrong address by his boss and left when he realized he was at the wrong house. The officer verified this with the driver’s company.

A resident of the 1100 block of Dayton Road reported that when she arrived at home at 6 p.m. June 21, she found her dishwasher open, and it was closed when she left the house. The resident also believed that a knife was missing from the dishwasher. Officers checked the house and found no one inside. The knife was found on the kitchen counter.

THEFT

Someone stole a child’s bicycle from a front yard between 8 p.m. June 19 and 7 p.m. June 20 on the 600 block of Patton Drive.

Someone made five unauthorized withdrawals totaling $1,286.21 from a resident’s account between June 18 and 21. The transactions took place in Palatine, Deerfield and Niles.
