Police Blotter: Stolen Deli Sandwiches, Noisy Basketball Players

BURGLARY

Someone smashed the driver-door window of a vehicle and took a black leather purse from the front passenger seat between 5:30 and 7:55 p.m. July 21 from a parking lot on the 900 block of North McHenry Road.

DUMPING COMPLAINT

An employee at a business on the 700 block of Hastings Lane reported July 21 that someone has placing garbage into the Dumpster. The employee found mail in the garbage belonging to a company down the street. An officer is attempting to reach an official of that company but has been able only to leave a voice message.

FOUND ITEM

While on patrol at 7:30 p.m. July 21, an officer located a black Senate in-line skate equipment bag between some bushes on the 300 block of McHenry Road. The bag was placed into property at the police station.

A resident of the 300 block of Cottonwood Road reported July 19 that a bicycle had been in his backyard for the last two days. The bicycle is a girl’s 20-inch blue Kent Rock On, which has been placed into property at the police station.

NOISE COMPLAINT

A resident of the 600 block of Checker Drive reported that he was kept awake by neighbors playing basketball in the driveway at 10 p.m. July 21. An officer spoke with the neighbors who apologized and said that they would stop playing by 10 p.m. in the future.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Someone removed the valve stems from two of the tires of a vehicle between 10 p.m. July 19 and 6 a.m. July 20 on the 400 block of Burnt Ember Road. The valve stems have pressure sensors and are valued at $610. The resident’s son stated that he had an argument with a friend and thinks that friend may be involved.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT/VEHICLE

An employee of a restaurant on the 1-100 block of West Dundee Road reported a vehicle in the parking lot at 3:15 a.m. July 22. An officer located the vehicle with two people sleeping. They were awakened and directed to go home.

A complainant stated that two Hispanic men came to the door of his BelAire Drive home at 4:30 p.m. July 21, asking to retrieve a dehumidifier that was left behind after doing some work in the house. The complainant did not know anything about this and the men left a business card behind. An officer called the number and the person answering said he works for a carpentry company. The homeowner stated that he never did any business with the company and believed the two men had the wrong address.

THEFT

A loss-prevention officer at reported that three male youths took sandwiches from the deli and left the store without paying for them at 5:30 p.m. July 21. The officer then stopped the youths, who began to fight and got away. Security video captured clear images of the youth and investigators will follow up.
