Police Blotter: Stolen Car, iPod and Cell Phone

These were among the reports released Jan. 17 by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

ALCOHOL

A resident reported that his intoxicated 28-year-old son ran out of the house at 9:30 p.m. Jan. 14. Officers checked the area and located the son, who could not keep his balance and was making irrational statements. The son was transported by paramedics to Northwest Community Hospital.

Officers responded to a report of a juvenile who was intoxicated and vomiting at 10 p.m. Jan. 14 at , 350 N. McHenry Road. An officer located a 16-year-old female who was passed out on the floor. The manager stated that the juvenile came into the business 15 minutes prior and he had called for the ambulance. The girl was transported to Northwest Community Hospital and her mother was notified.  

Derrick S. McKinley, 49, of the 1200 block of Kings Grant Drive, Raleigh, N.C., was charged with driving under the influence and illegal lane usage at 12:35 a.m. Jan. 16 on northbound Milwaukee Avenue from Inverrary Lane.

Rodrigo Ruelas-Campos, 33, of the 100 block of South Chicago Avenue, Mundelein, was charged with driving under the influence, speeding, driving on a suspended license, illegal lane usage and driving without insurance at 4:20 a.m. Jan. 16 at northbound Milwaukee Avenue near Deerfield Parkway.

BATTERY

A mother stated that while she was dropping her son off at school at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 14 on the 1500 block of Brandywyn Lane, another driver almost struck the boy. The mother and the other driver exchanged words, and after following each other in their cars, they confronted each other and a physical altercation followed. Both had minor injuries. No complaints were signed.

DRUGS

A 14-year-old Arlington Heights resident, 14-year-old Buffalo Grove resident and 15-year-old Buffalo Grove resident were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 2:20 p.m. Jan. 13 at Arlington Heights Road and Dundee Road.

Gabriela A. Carrillo, 32, of the 200 block of Armstrong Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession of marijuana at 3:35 p.m. Jan. 15 on the 300 block of McHenry Road.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A resident reported Jan. 14 that he has been receiving harassing phone calls from the boyfriend of a woman he has been helping. An officer spoke with the boyfriend who stated that he just wanted to know if his girlfriend was OK. The resident told the officer where the girlfriend was and officer spoke with her and determined that she was fine. The boyfriend was notified.

A resident had reported a subject calling and harassing him because he had helped the subject’s girlfriend. Even after being told by police to stop, the subject continues to call, the resident reported on Jan. 15. The resident will call his cell phone provider to have the subject’s number blocked.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 2600 block of Misty Woods Road reported at 12:45 a.m. Jan. 16 that a white Ford Explorer had damaged a number of curbside mailboxes in the area. The area was checked but the vehicle was not located. Six mailboxes were found damaged or disturbed.

A resident of the 900 block of Old Arlington Court reported finding her mailbox knocked over and tire tracks on the parkway. The damage occurred between 8 a.m. Jan. 15 and 9:20 p.m. Jan. 16. The resident does not know who may have caused the damage.

THEFT

Someone stole a 1995 Chevy Lumina from a driveway on the 1500 block of Rose Boulevard between 5:30 p.m. Jan. 16 and 6:15 a.m. Jan. 17. The resident stated that he was not sure if the car was locked, and that a spare set of keys were in the car.

A complainant reported that he lost his cell phone in a parking lot on the 100 block of North McHenry Road between 5-10:55 p.m. Jan. 4 and later learned from his cell provider that someone has been using the phone to send text messages. The phone service was terminated and the complainant will receive credit for the messages sent.

A complainant reported that someone took her cell phone from her unattended purse between 10 p.m. Jan. 14 and 1 a.m. Jan. 15 while she was at , 350 N. McHenry Road. The complainant sent a text message to her missing phone stating that she would pay a reward for its return. The complainant stated that she received a call from a female subject who said that she would meet the complainant and return the phone. The meeting took place and officers were there to make contact. The female was taken into custody but the complainant decided not sign a complaint.

A resident reported that she had some friends over to her house on Jan. 14 and later found that her 32G iPod Touch was missing from a dresser drawer. The resident stated that she sent text messages and spoke with the friends, asking that the iPod be returned, but no one knew anything. An officer will follow up.

A resident stated that she rented four videos, and placed them into a shopping cart. The resident then emptied the cart of groceries and forgot to take the videos. When she returned to look for them, they were gone.

TRESPASSING

A resident of the 100 block of Cherrywood Road reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle between 9 p.m. Jan. 16 and 4:55 a.m. Jan. 17. Nothing was missing. The other three vehicles in the driveway, which were locked, had not been touched.

A resident of the 200 block of Cherrywood Road reported that all three of his unlocked vehicles were entered between 10 p.m. Jan. 16 and 4 a.m. Jan. 17. Nothing was taken. In one vehicle, someone smoked a cigarette and left the butt on the passenger seat. The butt burned a hole in the cushion.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident reported Jan. 14 that he received a phone call from a collections company claiming that he owed $432.92 on a credit card that the resident stated he does not own. When the resident checked his credit report, the card did not show up.

A resident reported receiving numerous phone calls concerning credit cards on Jan. 14. An officer did a computer search on the caller ID number, which was from California and linked to statements indicating it was used by a credit card scammer.  The resident was reminded not to giver out personal information on the phone.

A complainant stated that he works with his uncle but they have not spoken to each other for years due to family issues. As the complainant was leaving work at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 14 on the 1100 block of Weiland Road, the uncle was upset and began pushing the complainant. The complainant did not want to sign complaints, only wanted the incident documented.

A complainant reported that an uninvited family member showed up at a wedding reception at 7:50 p.m. Jan. 14 on the 1300 block of West Dundee Road and began a yelling tirade. The unwanted guest departed before the officer arrived.

A resident reported at 7:45 a.m. Jan. 15 that her 14-year-old daughter left the house without permission the previous evening and had not returned. The girl was entered into the state police data system. The girl was located the following day serving a detention at her high school. She would not divulge where she had been.
