Police Blotter: Smashed Mailboxes, Anti-Government Propaganda

These were among the reports released March 14 by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

ALCOHOL

A complainant reported an intoxicated male was in the parking lot of a business on the 1-100 block of North McHenry Road. Officers located the 27-year-old Wheeling resident and returned him to his apartment.

Lorena A. Chopin, 19, of the 2200 block of Bayside Drive, Palatine, was charged with driving under the influence, possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor, disobeying a traffic control device, illegal lane usage and speeding at 5 a.m. March 12 on Dundee Road at Arlington Heights Road.

ANIMALS

A resident of the 100 block of North Buffalo Grove Road reported a dog was barking in a neighboring unit between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. March 12. The resident will report the ongoing incidents to the condo board and the officer placed a citation under the door.

BATTERY

A 16-year-old reported that as he and his friends were exiting a restaurant at 9 p.m. March 12 on the 1100 block of Weiland Road, a subject approached the victim and punched him in the face, causing injuries. The subject then asked the victim for money and continued punching him.

DISPUTE

A driver reported that he found a parking violation sticker on his windshield after parking near a dumpster March 10 on the 200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. An officer advised the subject that it was private property and the owner could place the sticker there.

A bar manager on the 100 block of North McHenry Road reported receiving a threatening text message from a soon-to-be ex-employee at 10:20 p.m. March 11.  An officer spoke with the employee, who stated that he meant the message to be a joke. The employee stated that he would speak with the bar manager.

A disabled customer asked a gas station clerk on the 1-100 block of West Dundee Road to assist him with pumping gasoline into the car on March 13. When the clerk pumped more gas than requested, the customer did not wish to pay the additional amount. The customer was given the manager’s information.

DRUGS

Jacqueline S. Roth, 23, of the 400 block of White Pine Road, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession of marijuana, driving without insurance and driving without lights at 4:30 a.m. March 12 on the 100 block of Bernard Drive.

Tiffany N. Wilcox, 24, of the 600 block of Greenview, Waukegan, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and following too closely at 10:25 p.m. March 12 on Half Day Road west of Milwaukee Avenue.

FOUND ITEM

A resident stated that someone left a pink Magna girl’s bicycle on his front lawn at 3 p.m. March 11 on the 200 block of St. Mary’s Parkway. The bike was placed into property.

A citizen turned in a black, woman’s handbag that he stated he found laying in a gutter during the early morning hours of March 13 on Harlem Avenue near the Kennedy Expressway. An officer contacted her and the bag was picked up.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident reported that her car’s rear window was broken while it was parked on the 400 block of Raupp Boulevard between 5-6:40 p.m. March 11. A projectile was located by the car.

A restaurant official reported that there had been a verbal altercation in the kitchen between employees and former employees at 7 p.m. March 11 on the 1-100 block of West Dundee Road. The official broke up the altercation and had the people leave.  Later, the official found that the windows to his vehicle were broken out.

A resident reported that juveniles were hanging out of the window of a vehicle and smashing mailboxes at 11 p.m. March 12 on the 500 block of Beechwood Road. Three 16-year-olds and one 15-year-old were arrested and charged with criminal damage to property. The driver was also cited for having too many passengers and driving without insurance.

Ivan Muzychka, 24, of the 800 block of North Fairfield Avenue, Chicago, was charged with criminal damage to property at 5:30 a.m. March 13 on the 1500 block of East Busch Parkway.

RECKLESS DRIVING

A resident reported observing a red Pontiac Grand Prix speeding down the 400 block of St. Mary’s Parkway on March 11 and said that it’s an ongoing issue. An officer spoke with the 16-year-old driver, who admitted driving over the posted limit. The officer advised that the area would be monitored.

THEFT

A complainant stated that someone used the ATM at the Walgreen’s, 15 N. Buffalo Grove Road, to make a $400 unauthorized withdrawal from her account between March 2-12. The complainant stated that she shopped at the store the night before the unauthorized transaction. The complainant’s debit card is still in her possession.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident turned in a Springfield .22 caliber rifle on March 11. The rifle was placed into property for destruction.

A verbal altercation was reported on March 11 at a business on the 1300 block of Barclay Boulevard after a landlord served the owner with papers. An officer spoke with the landlord and advised him that he was not welcome at the business.

A citizen turned in a DVD which he found on March 11 on Arlington Heights Road north of Beechwood Drive. The disc had a sticker on it indicating anti-government propaganda. It was placed into evidence.
