Police Blotter: Scammer Threatens Arrest, Garbage Can Stolen

ALCOHOL

A complainant reported a person sleeping inside a vehicle at 7:09 a.m. Jan. 8 in a parking lot on Villa Verde Drive. Officers contacted the person, who then left the parking lot. 

ATTEMPTED SCAM

A resident went to the police department at 7:15 p.m. Jan. 9 to report a scam. He stated he received an email advising that he was going to be arrested for one of three offenses, child pornography, software piracy and another that he couldn't recall. The email stated it was from the U.S. Dept. of Justice, and instructed him to purchase a pre-paid credit card and enter the numbers and security code on the screen. The screen also showed him a countdown timer giving him a certain amount of time before his arrest. The resident was advised that this was a scam. 

THEFT

A resident of the 500 block of Parkview reported their Waste Management garbage can was stolen between 8:26-9:26 a.m. Jan. 9

A complainant reported that her purse was stolen after she left it on a patio at 6 p.m. Jan. 6 on the 800 block of Trace Drive.

A resident reported Jan. 9 that someone added three phone lines and ordered three new phones in his name without his knowledge or consent. The resident advised the phone company.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident reported Jan. 8 that he sold a vehicle with the understanding that the plates would be destroyed. He later received a call advising him that the plates were found on a different vehicle near Chicago. The complainant contacted the Secretary of State and revoked the plates.
