Police Blotter: Robber Climbs Through Window

ALCOHOL

Fred R. Lindorfer Jr., 21, of the 100 block of Inverrary Lane, Deerfield, was charged with driving under the influence, driving too fast for conditions and driving without insurance at 9:45 p.m. Aug. 20 on Deerfield Road at Weiland Road.

Vadym Sidyelnikov, 34, of the 1-100 block of Timber Lane, Vernon Hills, was charged with driving under the influence at 8:25 p.m. Sept. 1 on westbound Deerfield Parkway at McHenry Road.

Megan N. Kim, 32, of the 400 block of Chestfield Lane, Vernon Hills, was charged with driving under the influence, speeding in a construction zone and illegal lane use at 2:30 a.m. Sept. 3 on northbound Arlington Heights Road from Beechwood Road.

Anthony G. Mowers, 44, of the 1500 block of Eastend Road, Winthrop Harbor, was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a revoked license and speeding at 12:05 a.m. Sept. 5 on Lake-Cook Road at Milwaukee Avenue.

ANIMALS

A complainant turned in a tan Siamese cat that he found wandering in a parking lot on the 1-00 block of North Buffalo Grove Road at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 4. The cat had no collar or tag and was taken to Kings Kennel.

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY

A resident reported being approached by a man brandishing a knife and asking for the resident’s wallet, at 8:45 p.m. Sept. 4 on the 2400 block of Palazzo Drive. When the resident began yelling, the man ran toward Apple Hill Park. Officers and the K9 team searched the area for the man, who was reported to be no more than 20 years old, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a thin build, wearing a light-gray hoodie and dark-colored pants, with negative results.

BATTERY

Amanda R. Kutyba, 21, of the 200 block of Woodview Drive, Streamwood, was charged with battery after an individual reported a physical altercation between two women at 11:30 p.m. Sept. 3 at the Buffalo Grove Days beer tent. The two were fighting over a man who is the ex-boyfriend of Kutyba and the boyfriend of the other woman, police said.

An individual reported finding a friend with a laceration to his head and a disoriented state at 8 p.m. Sept. 4 in a parking lot on the 1-100 block of South Buffalo Grove Road. The victim stated that he was jumped and punched but did not know the offenders. The area was checked with negative results.

A victim reported that while he was in the bathroom of a restaurant on the 1-1000 block of Raupp Boulevard at 12:05 a.m. Sept. 5, unknown people punched and choked him. Witnesses described the offenders as three white men in their late 20s.

Andrew R. Cwick, 29, of the 700 block of MacArthur Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with domestic battery on Aug. 27.

BURGLARY

A resident of the 1100 block of Miller Lane reported that a man entered her apartment through her children’s bedroom window at 3:30 a.m. Sept. 4. When the resident confronted the man, he exited through the same window and left in an unknown direction, taking the resident’s purse with him. The purse contained a driver’s license, $600, a checkbook and two credit cards. Officers and a K9 team searched the area with negative results. The man was described as a Hispanic with a fair complexion, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and 140 to 150 pounds.

A resident of Mohawk Court reported someone burglarized his garage and car between 8 and 9:40 a.m. Sept. 3. Upon finding the garage door open, the resident checked his truck inside the garage and discovered that someone had entered the truck and removed his Dell laptop computer. The resident then checked the car in the driveway and found that someone had entered it and removed a gym bag and purse containing a wallet, a watch, a heart monitor, DVDs, a Nintendo DS, two iPods, makeup and $60 in cash.

A resident of Mohawk Court reported that someone entered his garage through the unlocked service door between 8 and 9 a.m. Sept. 3 and removed a silver Marin Kentfield bicycle valued at $500.

A business official on the 100 block of North McHenry Road reported someone left pry and scratch marks on the rear door between 9 p.m. Sept. 3 and 3 a.m. Sept. 4. No entry was gained.

Someone entered an unlocked truck and removed a mounted computer monitor between 10:30 p.m. Sept. 4 and 4:45 p.m. Sept. 5 on Strathmore Court.

COMPLAINT

A resident of the 200 block of Cottonwood Road reported two boys were urinating on the bushes even though she asked them not to at 7:35 p.m. Sept. 3. The youths walked from the area and officers were unable to locate them.

A complainant reported a couple making out in at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 4 and thought they would disturb the children in the park. An officer spoke with the couple who stated that they were enjoying the beautiful weather and did kiss a couple of times. They were told to be mindful of the kids.

A resident of Villa Verde Drive reported noise coming from an upstairs neighbor between 7 and 10:50 a.m. Sept. 4. The noise sounded as though the neighbor was dropping weights on the floor. An officer attempted to speak with the neighbor but no one answered the door.

A resident reported that one of her guests yelled at the neighbors to shut up using a profanity at 12:25 a.m. Sept. 5. An officer spoke with the resident and the neighbor who stated that there were no hard feelings. Both agreed to go inside with their guests.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

An individual reported that while walking home with his two sisters from Buffalo Grove Days between 1 and 3:50 p.m. Sept. 4 on the 100 block of South Buffalo Grove Road, he was accosted by a group of people he believed to be gang members. The confrontation took place in Wheeling and was reported to that police department.

DISPUTE

A cab driver reported that he drove a man and woman from Chicago and the man refused to pay the fare at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 3 on the 300 block of Dundee Road. The man stated that his girlfriend was supposed to pay but she left. The man’s grandmother arrived and paid the $80 bill.

A manager at the reported a patron was going into various movies even though he was asked not to at 8:35 p.m. Sept. 3. The manager gave the patron a refund and asked him to leave, at which time the subject grabbed the manager’s arm. An officer requested that the patron leave and not return.

FOUND ITEMS

A resident of the 400 block of Patton Drive reported that someone left a boy’s black Rhino bicycle on her front porch between 9 p.m. Sept. 3 and 8 a.m. Sept. 4. The BMX bicycle was placed into property at the police station.

A resident of the 2200 block of Magnolia Court West reported finding a suspicious package in his yard at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 4. Officers found a homemade bong with a baggie containing a green leafy substance. The items were placed into evidence for destruction.

A resident of the 100 block of Bernard Drive reported someone left a 27-speed Schwinn Ranger bicycle in her front yard between 10 p.m. Sept. 3 and 11:50 a.m. Sept. 4. The black bike was placed into property at the police station.

IMPROPER SECURITY

A sergeant found the front door to a house standing ajar at 3 p.m. Sept. 1 on the 1-100 block of Crestview Terrace. There was no one at home at the time. The sergeant contacted the homeowner, who returned to the residence. There was no one found inside and everything was in order.

Officers responded to an activated alarm and found a door unsecured at 8:15 p.m. Sept. 3 at a business on the 300 block of Hastings Drive. An officer and the K9 team checked the building and found no one inside. An official arrived and secured the door.

Officers responded to an active alarm and found an open door at 9:50 a.m. Sept. 5 at a business on the 1300 block of Busch Parkway. An official responded, everything was found to be in order, and the door was locked.

MISSING PERSON

A resident reported that her 16-year-old son went to bed at 1:20 a.m. Sept. 5 and she discovered he was gone at 7:45 a.m. Later that morning, the resident received a text message from the son asking to be picked up from a friend’s house.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A resident reported receiving unwanted calls and text messages from an acquaintance and his wife at 6:50 p.m. Sept. 3. An officer contacted the acquaintance and told him to stop the unwanted calls.

A resident reported that an acquaintance called him 18 times between 1 and 3 a.m. Sept. 4. An officer called the acquaintance, who stated he had no time to deal with the issue and hung up.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 800 block of Dunhill Drive reported that four or five boys were ringing his doorbell and pulling the landscape lighting from the ground at 11:30 p.m. Sept. 3. The youths ran off when the resident confronted them. An officer located one of the boys and detected an odor of alcohol on him. The 16-year-old was charged with possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Someone used a sharp object to scratch the trunk, bumper and fenders of a 2010 Toyota Corolla parked on the 200 block of Willow Parkway between 7 and 11 a.m. Sept. 5.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

A resident of the 1300 block of Hidden Lake Drive reported observing a man wearing a gray hoodie crouched next to her vehicle in the driveway at 2 a.m. Sept. 5. When the man saw the resident, he ran off with another male subject. Officers checked the area with negative results.

THEFT

Someone took a teal Diamond Back bike at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 2 from a driveway on the 700 block of Patton Drive.

Stephanie W. Powell, 40, of the 1400 block of North Race Avenue, Arlington Heights, was charged with retail theft and possession of marijuana at 10:50 p.m. Sept. 2, after a loss-prevention official at reported that a woman placed five bottles of alcohol into a bag and attempted to leave the store without paying.

A complainant stated that while helping with a garage sale between 8:40 and 9:20 a.m. Sept. 3, someone took her cell phone, which was lying on a table. The Sony U.S. Cellular phone is valued at $200.

A loss-prevention official at reported a man and woman placed five canisters of baby formula into a backpack and left the store without paying at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 3. The couple got into a black Nissan passenger car and left the area.

A manager at reported that a woman left with a bag containing merchandise at 1:50 p.m. Sept. 4. There was no sale of that merchandise at a register. The woman then got into a pickup truck and left the area.

An official at a company on the 300 block of Lexington Drive reported that someone broke the window of one vehicle, took the wheels and interior components of another and took a 1996 Honda Civic between 6:30 p.m. Sept. 2 and 12:30 p.m. Sept. 5. Security video was not clear enough to identify the offender.

WELL-BEING CHECK

An officer spoke with a female who was crying at 11:30 p.m. Sept. 3 in a parking lot on the 1100 block of North Arlington Heights Road. The female stated that her boyfriend dropped her off because she did not want to go partying. She arranged for a friend to pick her up.
