Police Blotter: Retail, Identity Thefts Reported

DISTURBANCE

Officers responded to a report of two people physically fighting at 12:05 a.m. April 5 outside the east doors of . Officers located the people, who were not seriously injured. Each refused to sign complaints.

DRUGS

Eric G. Bender, 18, of the 400 block of River Grove Court, Vernon Hills, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding and driving without insurance at 9:40 p.m. April 4 on Deerfield Parkway at Weiland Road.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A resident reported April 4 that a longtime friend and her boyfriend have been calling, to demand money that he allegedly owed to the friend. The resident stated that he does not owe the friend any money.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 300 block of Armstrong Drive reported his vehicle was damaged by BBs or similar projectiles between 7 p.m. Feb. 26 and 7 a.m. Feb. 27.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

A complex official on the 1700 block of Johnson Drive reported at 9:50 p.m. April 4 that there was a person in the workout facility of the clubhouse who had no authority to be there. An officer checked and found that the person lived in the complex and had a right to be at the facility.

THEFT

An assistant manager at reported observing a youth take merchandise and place it into his waistband at 3:10 p.m. April 4. The youth was stopped and turned over to a police officer. The youth’s mother was contacted and the youth will appear before a peer jury.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A complainant reported that someone ordered four prescriptions of hydrocodone in her name and without her knowledge between Feb. 26 and March 16. The complainant became aware of this when called her telling her that the prescription was ready for pickup. Security video will be reviewed for offender identification.

A complainant reported that he received two payroll checks totaling $2,970.11 from between March 18, 2011 and June 30, 2011. When the complainant took the checks to the bank, he was advised that there was no money in the account. The business since has closed.

A complainant reported that she went to with her boyfriend on March 17. The boyfriend went in another direction and the complainant used her reusable bag to gather groceries for purchase. When finished, the complainant looked for her boyfriend and found him at the Starbucks. At that time, a security person took her by the shoulder and he handcuffed her. The complainant cooperated and told the security person that she was going to pay for the items, which she then did. The security person then told the complainant not to return and threatened the complainant with bodily harm.

A resident was informed by her accountant April 4 that the IRS refused to accept her tax return because one already had been filed with her identification. The resident then contacted the IRS, which will investigate. The resident was directed to contact the credit bureaus and the Federal Trade Commission.
