Police Blotter: Residents Charged with Theft, Marijuana Possession

ATTEMPTED SCAM/IDENTITY THEFT

A resident told police that he received a letter and a check for $4,200 on Oct. 20. The letter told the resident that he won an “International Sweepstake,” and directed him to cash the check and send a $2,850 processing fee to an undisclosed recipient via Western Union. The resident was correct in assuming this to be a scam. 

A resident reported receiving a letter earlier this month from the IRS requesting additional information for his 1040A form. The resident checked with his accountant who advised that the resident does not file a 1040A and that someone is attempting to use his identity. The resident has notified the IRS and Life Lock.

COMPLAINTS

A resident of the 1300 block of Whitney Lane reported noise coming from a neighboring house at 8 p.m. Oct. 19. An officer spoke with the neighbor who stated that he was renovating the property. When asked if he had a permit for the work, he said no and stopped working. 

A resident of Oak Creek Drive reported at 12:05 a.m. Oct. 23 that there is constant noise coming from the upstairs neighbor. The resident has been in contact with the association. An officer went to the neighbor’s apartment and heard nothing. The neighbor stated that his small child had been running around, but had gone to bed. The neighbor stated that he and his family are moving out of the unit this week.

DRUGS

Timothy M. Sauer, 24, of the 300 block of Gregg Lane, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding in a school zone at 3:45 p.m. Oct. 22 on Plum Grove Circle at Regent Drive.

Brenden T. Holm, 25, of the 500 block of Chatham Circle, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession of marijuana at 3:45 p.m. Oct. 22 on Plum Grove Circle and Regent Drive.

FOUND PROPERTY

A resident turned in a white Apple iPhone, which she found in the Viper Alley parking lot at 12:50 p.m. Oct. 21. The owner was contacted and came to the station to retrieve her property. 

RECKLESS DRIVING

A resident reported that a vehicle made an abrupt lane change in front of her at 9 p.m. Oct. 17 on Buffalo Grove Road near Dundee Road. The resident thought the move was reckless. An officer contacted the registered owner of the other vehicle, who stated that she did not remember who was driving her car at that time, but that she would speak with her grandchildren and assure that there will be no future driving complaints involving her car. 

THEFT

A Shell gas station clerk reported that the driver of a white Chevrolet van drove off without paying for $20.02 in gas at 1 p.m. Oct. 22. The car was registered to an owner in Chicago.

Jaclyn S. Walter, 25, of the 700 block of Golfview Terrace, Buffalo Grove, was charged with retail theft at 7:20 p.m. Oct. 22 at Dominick’s. She was detained by a store loss prevention official, who told police she attempted to leave without paying for 17 items.
