Police Blotter: Resident Scammed, Equipment Stolen from Business Overnight

DISPUTE

A tenant reported April 2 that she is moving out and the landlord is refusing to return the full security deposit of $2,600. The landlord stated that he would refund $1,500 due to various issues. After some conversation, the landlord wrote a check for the full amount.

DRUGS

Thomas J. Besch, 19, of the 100 block of Bernard Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cannabis, not wearing a seat belt and driving without insurance at 3:30 p.m. April 2 on Raupp Boulevard at Bernard Drive.

THEFT

A company official on the 1000 block of Johnson Drive reported that someone took a 1997 Great Dane trailer from the business parking lot between 7 p.m. April 1 and 6 a.m. April 2. The trailer contained two machines valued at $120,000, two stainless steel tables valued at $600, and wire racks valued at $250. The trailer is valued at $5,000.

A resident reported April 2 that a person with whom she has been communicating via instant messenger sent her an email stating that he is on a business trip, had his wallet stolen, and needed some money sent via Western Union and the resident’s credit card information. The resident attempted to send $200, but Western Union stated that the recipient information, in Morocco, was incorrect. The person charged $300 on the resident’s credit card. Once the resident became suspicious, she had the credit card canceled. The resident was furnished with an identity theft packet and was advised to contact the three credit bureaus.

TRESPASSING

A security officer found two youths inside the school and they were evasive with their reasons for being there at 7:40 p.m. April 2. The officer spoke with the youths, who stated that they went inside to use the bathroom. Both boys are students. The officer spoke with the boys’ parents, who stated that it was OK for them to walk home.

WELL-BEING CHECK                       

A citizen reported a juvenile that was left alone in a car at 7:35 p.m. April 2 in a parking lot on the 100 block of North McHenry Road. An officer located the car and the boy. The car was parked right in front of a restaurant where the mother could watch the car from inside. The mother stated that her son got upset during dinner because the baby was crying and he asked to sit in the car where it was quiet. The mother and the kids left to go home.
