Police Blotter: Phone Hacker Makes Overseas Calls

ALCOHOL

Sungjoon Um, 22, of the 20800 block of Elizabeth Avenue, Lincolnshire, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding at 2:25 a.m. May 17 on westbound Lake-Cook Road from Milwaukee Avenue.

ANIMALS

A resident of the 1100 block of Brandywyn Lane found a stray, white, female Alaskan malamute at 4:45 p.m. May 16. The officer scanned for a chip and located one, which indicated the dog’s owner lived in Chicago. That individual stated the dog is now owned by a resident of Buffalo Grove. He was contacted and picked up the dog.

A citizen turned over to an officer a white, male Maltese wearing a red collar with a green Lake County rabies tag at 6 p.m. May 16 at Weiland and Pauline roads. The dog had a chip, which registered to Kay’s Animal Shelter. The officer was unable to make contact with Lake County or Kay’s and the dog was transported to Kings Kennel. 

BURGLARY

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle in a parking lot on the 1000 block of Weiland Road between noon and 5 p.m. May 14 and removed an Apple MacBook Pro computer valued at $1,300.

IMPROPER SECURITY

While conducting a vacation house watch at 6:20 p.m. May 16, an officer found an unlocked door. The residence was checked and found to be in order. The door was locked and the resident was contacted by phone and advised.

THEFT

A company official on the 1200 block of Barclay Boulevard reported that someone hacked into the company’s Internet phone service and made numerous calls to Afghanistan and one to Spain on April 10. The calls totaled $948.06.
