Police Blotter: Passenger Kicks Windshield, Grocery Store Argument

COMPLAINTS

A Buffalo Grove business owner reported Aug. 23 that she changed credit card processing companies and the salesman took her machines for reprogramming. The machines have not been returned and the new contract has not gone into effect. An officer spoke with the salesman, who stated that he will contact the owner and get the matter corrected.

An official at reported that a male was fighting with the store manager at 6 p.m. Aug. 23. The manager stated that the male kicked a garbage can over and the manager told him that he was not welcome in the store. An officer spoke with the male, who agreed not to return to the store.

An individual reported that a reckless driver was speeding and swerving at 11:15 p.m. Aug. 23 on the 1-100 block of McHenry Road. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with the driver, who stated that he had been driving for some time, was tired and was anxious to get home. No complaints were signed.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A resident reported Aug. 22 that a former acquaintance has been sending him harassing text messages and email. The acquaintance is also hacking into his phone and sending emails and texts to relatives, friends and co-workers. There is no contact information for the acquaintance, and the resident was advised to contact his cell provider regarding the security of his phone.

A resident reported Aug. 23 that someone gave her personal information to Netquotes.com, an online company that provides leads to various insurance companies. The resident has received numerous unwanted email solicitations and phone calls from insurance companies. A subpoena will be requested to obtain the IP address of the offender. Netquotes.com has been notified.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A security agent reported that someone damaged a building on the 900 block of West Dundee Road between 3 p.m. Aug. 22 and 10 a.m. Aug. 23. The rear overhead garage door had six windows broken out, and the service door was ajar. The building was checked and found to be OK.

Idelle B. Ramirez, 22, of the 700 block of Cherry Valley Road, Vernon Hills, was charged with criminal damage to property after an individual reported that the passenger in his car kicked the windshield, causing it to crack at 1:30 a.m. Aug. 24 on Lake-Cook Road near Raupp Boulevard.

SUSPICIOUS PHONE CALLS

A resident reported that he received a cell phone call at 5:50 p.m. Aug. 23 from a man who told the resident that there was going to be a surprise at his house later that evening. When the resident asked who the caller was, the caller hung up. The officer advised that she would stop by and that the resident should call 911 immediately if something occurred.

THEFT

A resident stated that he hired a company to clean up his flooded basement on Aug. 9. The resident later found that a box, containing antique silver place settings, was gone. The resident contacted the company and was advised that the employee had been terminated.
