Police Blotter: Oscilloscope Found in Parking Lot, Call from 'Agent Smith'

These were among the reports released March 11 by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

ANIMALS

A resident of a condo building on the 100 block of North Buffalo Grove Road reported March 11 that a neighbor’s dog barks constantly. An officer could hear the dog as he exited the elevator. The neighbor refused to open the door and speak with the officer. A citation was placed under the door.

Orlin H. Bonillas-Martinez, 23, of the 1200 block of Pleasant Run, Wheeling, was charged with driving on a revoked license, illegal lane usage, driving without insurance, and failure to appear on an arrest warrant for aggravated driving under the influence at 12:05 a.m. March 11 on northbound Arlington Heights Road near Lake-Cook Road.

Nicholas J. Kloepfer, 19, of the 1-100 block of Somerset Lane, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at 2:10 a.m. March 11 at Brandywyn Lane and Meridian Way.

Sean B. Linke, 20, of the 4300 block of Bayhead Court, Aurora, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a rear license plate light and driving without insurance at 2:10 a.m. March 11 at Brandywyn Lane and Meridian Way.

FOUND ITEM

A complainant reported March 10 that a blue box with wires attached around it was sitting in a parking lot of the 1100 block of West Lake-Cook Road. An officer found a Hitachi Denshi Oscilloscope. No owner information was on the electronic testing instrument, so it was placed into property.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident stated on March 10 that she received notification that someone is using her Social Security number. The resident also received a collections letter stating that she owed $248 to a retailer. The resident has notified the credit bureaus and will notify the Social Security Administration.

PHONE THREAT

A resident reported that he received a number of phone calls that came up as “anonymous” on Caller ID between Jan. 10 and March 10. His wife answered one of the calls on March 10, and the caller mentioned  “something about five million dollars,” according to police. When the wife stated that she was not interested, the caller made a threat of bodily harm. While the officer was taking the report, he answered one of the calls and told the caller that he is a police officer and that the caller should stop calling. The caller replied, “and I’m Agent Smith from the FBI,” and hung up.

SUSPICIOUS PHONE CALL

A resident received a phone call on March 9 from a person stating to be from Northwest Community Hospital. The caller requested the resident’s address and Social Security number to confirm with whom he was speaking. The resident refused and the caller stated that he would mail a packet and hung up.
