Police Blotter: Missing Trains and A Long Walk Home

These were among the reports released Sept. 20 by the Buffalo Grove Police Department

DRUGS

Robert T. Phillips, 18, of the 500 block of LaSalle Court, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 on the 1000 block of Pine Tree Circle North.

Edward A. Ciepiela, 25, of the 1-100 block of East Brookwood Court, Arlington Heights, was charged with driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana at 2:10 a.m. Sept. 19 at Dundee and Old Arlington Heights roads.

ALCOHOL

Luis A. Arreola, 34, of the 700 block of South Dennis, Wheeling, was charged with driving under the influence, driving without insurance, speeding, illegal lane usage, and not carrying a driver's license at 1:40 a.m. Sept. 18 at the intersection of Dundee and Old Buffalo Grove roads.

 Albert L Hoelbl II, 27, of the 2800 block of North Orchard, Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence, speeding and driving without insurance at 2:50 a.m. Sept. 19 at Buffalo Grove Road and Old Oak Drive.

BURGLARY

Someone ransacked a home on the 300 block of East Dundee Road and took $2,000 in cash and $20,000 in jewelry sometime between 4:15-9:35 p.m. Sept. 17. Entry was gained through a partially open window.

Someone entered a vehicle parked on the 500 block of Crown Point Drive and removed the faceplate to the AM/FM/CD player sometime between 9 p.m. Sept. 18 and 7 a.m. Sept. 19.

THEFT

Among new reports of unauthorized bank withdrawals:

Sept 17 — Three $9.95 withdrawals

Sept 13 — Three withdrawals totaling $1,050 in California

VANDALISM

Someone egged a home on the 400 block of Claret Drive between 12:15-9 a.m. Sept. 19. The resident reported that it was the second time this has happened this month.

BATTERY

A resident reported that another student beat up her son, causing his nose to bleed, while her son was at school Sept. 17. A school resource officer will follow up.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident of the 2800 block of Daulton Drive reported Sept. 17 finding her outside faucet turned on. She turned it off, and when she returned home from work, found the faucet turned on again. 

A resident of the 800 block of Buffalo Grove Road reported that he lent his train collection, valued at $12,000, to a hobby shop.When the complainant went to see the collection on Sept. 17, he found the store closed and a phone number on the door to make an appointment.  When the complainant attempted to call the number, no one answered. 

Police found two 14-year-old girls walking near Buffalo Grove and Aptakisic Roads at 12:45 a.m. Sept. 18. The teens said they had unsuccessfully attempted to reach their parents for a ride.  They were given a ride home to Riverwoods.

Wheeling police requested officers to check on a Buffalo Grove resident who had purchased a knife in Wheeling and told the sales clerk he was going to kill his girlfriend. Officers spoke with the resident who denied the comment to the clerk. It was determined that the knife was a small folding knife. The resident's father said his son does not have a girlfriend.

A motorist reported seeing a person breaking into the second-floor window of a home at 4:20 p.m. Sept. 19 on the 900 block of Belmar Lane. Officers located a number of youths in the home, two of whom were residents.  They stated that one of them was on the roof and that is normal practice for them to be out there.

A customer of a gas station on the 1-100 block of Lake-Cook Road reported Sept. 19 she had purchased $20 in gas, but her debit account was charged $77. The customer will work out the discrepancy with the station owner.

A resident reported finding the garage door open upon returning home Sept. 18. Officers checked the house and found no one inside.  The resident stated that everything was in order.

A resident reported she used Craig's List to advertise rental property in Florida. She later discovered someone else has used her photographs on another listing. The resident has reported this to Craig's List, but the posting has not been removed.

A resident reported Sept. 16 that a neighbor allows her dog to wander freely in the cul de sac without a leash, and the dog relieves itself on all of the lawns in the court.  Officer attempted to speak with the neighbor, but two attempts failed.  The resident was told to call the police when the dog is either out without a leash or the neighbor fails to pick up after the dog.

Stephen J. Ghrke, 25, of the 20000 block of Eugene Avenue, Prairie View, was arrested on a warrant for bond forfeiture at 2:50 a.m. Sept. 19 at Buffalo Grove Road and Old Oak Drive.
