Police Blotter: Man Suspects Poisonous Brownies

ALCOHOL

Ernesto H. Echevarria, 38, of the 1-100 block of Dundee Quarter, Palatine, was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, speeding and squealing his tires at 1:50 a.m. Oct. 1 on Weidner Road at Hapsfield Lane.

Enrique Gallardo, 31, of the 1-100 block of Oak Creek Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence, driving on a revoked license, illegal lane use and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle at 2:10 a.m. Oct. 2 on Dundee Road at Buffalo Grove Road.

CHILD SAFETY VIOLATION

Genoveva Solano-Balderas, 36, of the 1600 block of Chippewa, Wheeling, was charged with driving without a valid license and two child safety restraint violations at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 1 on the 400 block of Dundee Road.

COMPLAINANT

A complainant reported that a man became agitated with her when her dog took a physical liking to his dog at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 1 at the . The man was yelling profanities and pulled at the complainant’s dog. The man apologized for losing his temper and left the area.

A resident of Villa Verde reported loud banging noises coming from the unit above hers at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 30. An officer spoke with the upstairs neighbor who stated that he was in the process of moving out, had just painted the apartment, and the loud banging was due to him placing the lid back onto the paint can with a hammer. He apologized.

A resident reported that a neighbor’s loud music was keeping her children awake at 11:25 p.m. Oct. 1. An officer spoke with the neighbor, who agreed to keep his television volume down.

A female reported hearing a voicemail from another woman on her boyfriend’s cell phone at 2:05 a.m. Oct. 2. The girlfriend woke the boyfriend up from a deep sleep, and he became confrontational because he had no clue about what was going on. No complaints were signed.

A customer at a car wash on the 1700 block of Weiland Road reported Oct. 2 that when she was removing her children from her van, an employee turned on an air compressor in their presence. The compressor was so loud that the customer believes her infant sustained hearing damage. The customer will contact the owner and have her child’s hearing checked.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

Vasil Kovalov, 26, of the 8700 block of West Summerdale, Chicago, was charged with disorderly conduct after a complainant reported a man was urinating at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 in a parking lot on the 100 block of North McHenry Road. An officer spoke with Kovalov, who said he simply needed to urinate, so he did. When told that he did so in front of a family, he stated that he did nothing wrong.

HARASSMENT

A complainant reported that he towed a vehicle from a Buffalo Grove address to his shop in Wheeling on Sept. 22 to perform engine work. The vehicle could not be delivered when promised because parts were on back order. The owner of the vehicle has been sending text messages that the complainant feels are harassing. An officer spoke to the owner who agreed not to contact the complainant until the car repairs are completed on Oct. 4.

A resident stated Oct. 1 that she has been receiving text messages from a former friend and he has refused to stop. An officer spoke with the former friend, who assured the officer that contact with the resident would stop.

A resident reported receiving eight text messages from a former friend on Oct. 2. The messages were not threatening but were upsetting. An officer called the former friend and left a message.

IMPROPER SECURITY

A resident of the 1-100 block of West Fabish Drive reported the front door of a vacant house was standing wide open at noon Sept. 30. Officers noted no signs of forced entry and the interior was OK. An officer contacted the management firm, which sent representative out to repair the lock on the door.

INVESTIGATION

An official at the reported a man requested a blood test Sept. 30 because he believed he had been poisoned. The man stated that his ex-wife had given him some brownies earlier in the week and had been eating them. The man’s daughter sent him a text message telling him to not eat the brownies, because her mom put something in them. The man will let officers know when the blood test returns.

MISSING PERSON

A resident reported Oct. 1 that his 17-year-old daughter had not returned home from Woodfield Mall. He received a text message from the girl stating that she and a girlfriend were going to a karaoke bar in Rockford. The girls returned home the following day at 1 p.m. An officer spoke with the daughter at length about good communication with her parents.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 500 block of Crown Point Lane reported that someone egged his house, causing damage to a bedroom window screen and a mess on the siding above the garage between 11:30 p.m. Oct. 1 and 9:30 a.m. Oct. 2.
