Police Blotter: Man Admonished for Christmas Day Homicide Threat

ALARM

Officers responded to an active alarm at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 22 at a business on the 1-100 block of East Dundee Road and found the doors open. The interior was checked and no one was inside. An official responded and secured the doors.

Officers responded to an active alarm at 8:50 p.m. Dec. 26 on Essington Lane and found the front door unlocked. The residence was checked and found to be in order. An official responded and confirmed that everything was OK.

ALCOHOL

Ellen S. Douglas, 58, of the 1-100 block of Chestnut Terrace, Buffalo Grove, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash at 4:20 p.m. Dec. 21 on southbound Arboretum Way at Half Day Road.

Nova C. McClinton, 31, of the 500 block of Archer Avenue, Waukegan, was charged with driving under the influence, driving without insurance, expired registration and expired driver’s license at 5:20 a.m. Dec. 23 on Lake-Cook Road at Arlington Heights Road.

Evan D. Johnson, 26, of the 500 block of Crown Point Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with driving under the influence and illegal lane use at 2:15 a.m. Dec. 24 on Arlington Heights Road at Checker Road.

ANIMALS

A caregiver reported being bitten by her patient’s dog at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 23 on the 1000 block of Pine Tree Circle North. The caregiver was treated and released from the hospital for the puncture wound on her left leg. The dog has valid rabies tags and the resident was given instructions on the home confinement procedure.

BURGLARY

A resident reported that when the family returned home to the 800 block of Clohesey Drive at 9 p.m. Dec. 19, they found the garage door standing open. It later was learned that a wallet with $310 was missing from a bedroom, a camera, lenses and an iPad were missing from the living room, and a set of headphones and jewelry was missing from another bedroom. There were no signs of forced entry.

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES

An official from a doctor’s office in Gurnee reported Dec. 21 that a terminated employee allegedly took an unknown quantity of Drug Enforcement Administration prescription pads. Three prescriptions were filled, one in Buffalo Grove. The store manager provided a video of the transaction. Police will follow up. 

DISPUTE

As a complainant made a turn at 5:40 p.m. Dec. 23 at Avalon Drive and Miramar Lane, another vehicle tailgated him and honked the horn. When the complainant stopped at his home, he got out of his car and approached the other car. That driver got out, yelled and swore, and then spit on the complainant’s car. An officer checked the area for the other vehicle with negative results.

A resident reported that his 12-year-old son was beaten up by kids in the neighborhood between 2 and 3:45 p.m. Dec. 26. An officer spoke with the other kids, who stated that the resident’s son walked into their garage, would not leave and became antagonistic. An altercation followed. The officer spoke with the parents, who said they would speak with their children about appropriate conduct.

A resident reported Dec. 25 that his son’s adult stepson came to visit for a few days with his girlfriend on Dec. 4, and they have not left. The resident was seeking advice and was told to speak to his son about the stepson. The resident stated that he would give the couple until the first of the year and then become more aggressive. 

A resident of the 300 block of Hiawatha Drive reported that a neighbor threatened him while he was out walking his dog, because the dog had sniffed some miniature Christmas trees at 3 p.m. Dec. 25. The resident felt that threats of homicide were a bit excessive and requested officers speak with the neighbor. An officer spoke with the neighbor, telling him that homicide was not an appropriate response at any time, much less on Christmas Day. The neighbor apologized and agreed to call the police the next time he has a problem with someone.

A resident of Lake Boulevard reported that a neighbor, with whom the resident has had some problems, used his cellphone to record her while she was coming into the building at 10 p.m. Dec. 26. The neighbor then took the elevator to the fourth floor and held it, not allowing her to use it. An officer spoke with the neighbor, who denied the incident. 

DOMESTIC BATTERY

Isai Lifsheetz, 44, of the 1-100 block of Old Oak Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with domestic battery at 10:45 p.m. Dec. 23 on the 1-100 block of Old Oak Drive.

DRUGS

Vansh Diwan, 19, of the 700 block of Riverwalk, Wheeling, was charged with possession of marijuana and expired registration at 7:50 p.m. Dec. 23 on Buffalo Grove Road at Dundee Road.

FOUND ITEM

An official reported that a blue Mongoose BMX bicycle was sitting in the field behind the school between Dec. 16 and Dec. 22. The bike was placed into property at the police station.

A resident of the 1400 block of Brandywyn Lane reported that someone rang his doorbell at 11:05 p.m. Dec. 25, and when he answered, he found two baby Jesus figures on his doorstep. An officer retrieved the figures and found contact information on the bottom. The owners will be contacted.

NOISE COMPLAINT

A resident of the 400 block of Patton Drive reported loud music coming from a neighbor’s home at 8 p.m. Dec. 23. An officer spoke with the neighbor, who was hosting a Christmas party, and did not realize that the music was too loud. The neighbor apologized and turned the music down.

A resident of the 1-100 block of Columbus Parkway reported a man yelling in front of the house. At 4:10 p.m. Dec. 25. Officers met the man, who stated that he was working on his snowmobile in the front yard and was yelling for his friend to come out of the house and help. The man agreed to keep his voice down.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Someone knocked a curbside mailbox off its post between 8 p.m. Dec. 23 and 7:45 a.m. Dec. 24 on the 400 block of Ridgewood Lane.

Residents of the 400 block of East Dundee Road reported that someone broke the large marble table in the foyer and scattered the items that were on it between noon and 3:25 p.m. Dec. 24.

Someone used a small landscape rock to smash the front passenger window of a car at 9:10 a.m. Dec. 26 on the 500 block of Chatham Circle.

Someone used a landscape rock to smash the rear window of a car parked on the street between 8 p.m. Dec. 25 and 11 a.m. Dec. 26 on the 400 block of Regent Drive.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/VEHICLE

A resident reported that a person she did not recognize was walking around a vacant home at 12:45 p.m. Dec. 22 on the 300 block of Cottonwood Road. The person was carrying a baseball bat and a camera. An officer contacted the bank and determined that it had sent someone over to inspect the home.

A complainant reported five people hanging around a business at 2:55 p.m. Dec. 22 on the 1100 block of Lake-Cook Road. An officer located the people, who stated that they were waiting for a friend to pick them up. They were checked for wants and warrants and all cleared.

A resident reported a vehicle and person parked in on Regent Court West Court with the vehicle running between 11 a.m. and noon Dec. 23. The resident then approached the car, which took off. An officer attempted to contact the registered owner without success. The officer will follow up.

A resident of the 200 block of Golfview Terrace reported a vehicle with people parked in front of his neighbor’s home at 9:45 p.m. Dec. 23. When the resident approached the car, it took off. The resident only had a partial license plate number and a registered owner could not be found.

A resident of the 900 block of Stradford Circle reported that unknown people knocked on his front door at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 23. When the resident did not answer the door, the people left. The resident did not have a distinct description of the people or their vehicle.

A sergeant noted a male subject walking at 11:30 p.m. Dec. 23 on the median on the 300 block of West Dundee Parkway. When the sergeant made a U-turn, the subject crossed the street. When the sergeant made another U-turn and stopped near the subject, the subject took off running. The sergeant chased, but lost him. A cellphone was recovered from the ground and the registered owner of that phone matches the person who was chased. The sergeant went to the residence but found no one at home.

A resident of the 400 block of Burnt Ember Lane reported a vehicle driving slowly along the street and then stopping at 4:20 p.m. Dec. 26. An officer located the unoccupied vehicle, which registered out of Riverwoods. An attempt to contact the registered owner failed.

THEFT

A resident of the 1300 block of Rose Boulevard reported that someone took the light bulbs from the coach lights on either side of the garage door between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Dec. 23.

A resident reported that she believed that her ex-husband entered her house and removed an external hard drive and miscellaneous court papers between Dec. 3 and Dec. 22.

UNWANTED PERSON

A restaurant manager on the 1200 block of West Dundee Road reported a man was bothering employees at 9 a.m. Dec. 23. An officer spoke with the subject who agreed to leave.

The owner of a business on the 1300 block of North Barclay Boulevard reported that a terminated employee came into the business with four other people at 7 p.m. Dec. 23, demanding his last paycheck. The owner felt intimidated and told the former employee that he would arrange for the check to be issued by payroll. The people were gone when officers arrived and the officers stood by while the owner locked the business up.

A father reported Dec. 25 that his adult son, who was supposed to be in a hospital, might be at the Buffalo Grove residence with his brother. Officers found the son, who stated that he had been discharged from the hospital and requested a ride to a local hotel.

VANDALISM

An officer found that someone left graffiti on a AT&T junction box between 8 p.m. Dec. 21 and 10 a.m. Dec. 22 on Buffalo Grove Road at Common Way. AT&T was notified to clean the box.

A resident reported numbers were spray painted on her fence between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24. The numbers are wearing off and the resident stated that she would stain the fence at a later time.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident received a phone call from a retailer in California confirming that she requested a credit card. The resident did not request the card and the application was canceled. The resident then found that someone opened up another retail credit account in her name. The credit bureaus have been notified.

A resident of Lake Boulevard reported that when she attempted to enter the building at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 24, a neighbor, who was outside smoking, took out his cellphone and began recording her.

While conducting a vacation house watch at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 24, an officer found the front door unlocked. The house was checked and everything appeared to be in order. A voice message was left on the owner’s cellphone.

A resident reported at 11:45 p.m. Dec. 26 that her adult daughter borrowed the resident’s car at 13:30 p.m. Dec. 25. The car was not returned when it should have been, so the resident contacted her daughter, who stated that she would not be returning the car. An officer found that the license plate had been run by Mundelein police after it was involved in an accident in that town. The daughter returned the car at 2:40 a.m.
