Police Blotter: Liquor Stolen From Dominick's

ANIMALS

The received an email Aug. 17 stating that a resident of the 200 block of Thornapple Court has two dogs, including a pit bull, which are mean and may not have a village license. An officer spoke with the resident, who stated that she has a border collie and a mixed-breed dog that may have some pit bull in him. The dogs were friendly, barked as they came up to the officer, and the officer was able to pet them. Neither had a license and the owner was issued citations.

DISPUTE

A resident who was moving out of her apartment reported Aug. 17 that the landlord keeps calling and is threatening to report the resident to Section 8 authorities to have the resident’s benefits rescinded. The resident wanted to document the threat.

FOUND PROPERTY

A resident turned over a brown leather wallet that he found lying in the roadway at 1 a.m. Aug. 18 on Gilmer Road, north of Route 83. An officer contacted the owner of the driver’s license and he came to the station to retrieve his property. The owner stated that everything was inside.

IMPROPER SECURITY

While training at 9:20 p.m. Aug. 17, the police department’s K9 team discovered two doors that were left open at a building on the 300 block of Weiland Road. The team searched and cleared the building and secured the doors. A message was left with an official.

THEFT

An investigator for reported Aug. 11 that security video showed an individual taking liquor and leaving the store without paying on two different occasions. The total loss was $814.43.  

An investigator for reported Aug. 7 that security video showed a male subject placing alcohol into a shopping cart, and leaving the store without paying. The total loss was $269.74.

WARRANT

Joseph J. Chiero, 21, of the 1100 block of East Northwest Highway, Palatine, was arrested by Des Plaines police on a bond forfeiture warrant at 8:20 p.m. Aug. 17 on the 1400 block of Miner Street.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A manager at a business on the 300 block of Half Day Road reported Aug. 17 that a member has been acting inappropriately with other members and staff. His membership has been canceled and it is being reported in case the ex-member returns and causes problems.
