Police Blotter: Kids Break Light Bulbs on the Street

ALCOHOL

Derek W. Danko, 24, of the 12300 block of Mitchell Drive, Plano, was charged with driving under the influence, transportation of open liquor, speeding and driving without insurance at 12:45 a.m. Sept. 16 on westbound Dundee Road from Weidner Road.

A resident of Oak Creek Drive reported four male youths were breaking fluorescent light bulbs on the street at 6:40 p.m. Sept. 15. When she looked out, the youths took off running. Officers checked the area with negative results. The resident cleaned up the broken glass.

A resident of the 1-100 block of Wakefield Lane reported loud noise was coming from a neighboring house at 9:40 p.m. Sept. 15 and said that the adult children often come home late at night and slam the car doors. Officers spoke with the neighbor who stated that there was no noise.

Staff at reported a gray vehicle with a white man was parked near the facility’s Dumpsters at 6:20 p.m. Sept. 15. The staff was concerned that the subject was looking to steal personal information from mail and other documents in the Dumpster. An officer contacted the man who stated that he simply placed a bag of his own garbage in the Dumpster. He was admonished and the staff was advised.

SUSPICIOUS PHONE CALL

A resident reported receiving a phone call Sept. 15 from a younger-sounding female who claimed to be the resident’s granddaughter. The caller stated that she had been arrested in Mexico City, that she needed money to pay the fine, and not to tell her parents. The resident confirmed with her son that his daughter is not in Mexico and did not send any money.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE

A resident reported that a subject got out of a white van at 4:15 p.m. Sept. 15 and was pounding on her front door on the 400 block of Highland Grove Drive. The 12-year-old resident was home alone, did not recognize the subject and was frightened. An officer spoke with the subject, who stated that he was delivering a shipment from Staples. The officer verified that and called the resident’s mom to let her know what transpired.

WARRANT

Jonathan R. Vargas, 19, of the 300 block of Navajo Trail, Buffalo Grove, was arrested on a warrant from Elgin for possession of a controlled substance at 5:15 p.m. Sept. 15 on the 300 block of Navajo Trail.
