Police Blotter: Intoxicated Man Tires of Walking, Rests at Dominick's

ALARM

Officers responded to an active alarm at 8:25 p.m. Dec. 16 on the 1200 block of Bristol Lane and found a rear door unlocked. There was no one at home. Officers checked the residence and found everything in order and no one inside. The house was secured and a message was left for the homeowner. 

Officers responded to an active alarm at 8:05 p.m. Dec. 18 on the 100 block of East Fox Hill Drive and found the front door open. There were no footprints in the snow at either the front or rear doors. The resident arrived and officers checked the interior and found everything to be OK.

ALCOHOL

Officers responded to a report of a woman lying on the ground and being assaulted by a man at 1:50 a.m. Dec. 18 in a parking lot on the 100 block of North McHenry Road. An officer spoke with the man, who stated the woman on the ground was his wife who was very intoxicated. When the husband attempted to assist his wife, she refused his help, began screaming and throwing a tantrum. Due to the wife’s high level of intoxication, she was transported by paramedics to Northwest Community Hospital.

Matthew C. Dowd, 22, of the 14300 block of West Shankkiln Court, Green Oaks, was charged with driving under the influence, illegal lane use, not carrying a driver’s license and driving without insurance at 12:05 a.m. Dec. 17 on northbound Milwaukee Avenue at Deerfield Parkway.

Donato DeFrenza, 30, of the 1000 block of Kingsport Drive, Wheeling, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding at 3:05 a.m. Dec. 17 on eastbound Dundee Road from Golfview Terrace.

William M. Carney Jr., 56, of the 600 block of Armstrong Court North, Buffalo Grove, was charged with driving under the influence, failure to notify police of an accident and driving without insurance at 8:10 p.m. Dec. 17 on Arlington Heights Road at Lake-Cook Road.

ATTEMPTED SCAM

A resident received a call Dec. 16 from a man claiming to be from the Publisher’s Clearing House who told the resident that she had won a large sum of money but needed to pay the caller $125 for the IRS processing fee. The resident hung up. An officer reminded the resident that legitimate companies do not make anyone pay fees before a prize is given.

BURGLARY

A resident of Villa Verde Drive reported Dec. 18 that when he left his apartment two days prior, he was in a hurry and did not know if he locked the front door. When he returned home, he discovered that two Rolex watches and $300 in cash were missing. There were no signs of forced entry.

A resident of the 100 block of Forest Place reported Dec. 18 that a navigation system was missing from each of the cars that were in the garage.

DISPUTE

A customer at a gas station on the 1-100 block of West Lake-Cook Road reported Dec. 17 that she gave the clerk a gift card and he placed the credit on the gas pump. When the customer attempted to use the pump, it reset, removing the credit. The customer was concerned that she would not receive a reimbursement. The clerk stated that the credit would reappear on the card within 24 hours.

A cab driver reported at 2:20 a.m. Dec. 18 that his rider from Chicago Ridge refused to pay the fare because he believed the driver did not go directly where he wanted to go. An officer had a discussion with the rider, who paid his bill and went into his apartment.

Officers responded to a man and woman in a heated discussion at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 at the . The woman stated that the man was working out and stretching in an offensive manner, and she believed that he might be consuming alcohol from a green bottle. An officer spoke with the man, who apologized for disturbing someone and stated that the green bottle was mineral water purchased in the fitness center.

DRUG PARAPHERNALIA

Marc J. Futterman, 18, of the 2400 block of Palazzo Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding, disregarding a stop sign, no proof of insurance and not carrying a driver’s license at 2:05 a.m. Dec. 17 on Bernard Drive at Cherrywood Road.

FIRE

A resident of the 600 block of Hackberry Court East reported that she returned home at 7:15 p.m. Dec. 16 to find the carpet on fire near the rear of the house. Fire personnel responded and extinguished the blaze. There was minimal structure damage, the dog was rescued unharmed and a cause is not yet determined.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

A resident reported two people were in at 12:20 a.m. Dec. 18, after closing. An officer located the two youths, who stated that they had been at a friend’s home and were waiting for a sister to pick them up. The officer called their mom to verify that the sister was on the way. The officer told the mother to have the sister make the pick up at the police station.

A official reported an intoxicated person was lying on the floor between the entrance doors at 2:25 a.m. Dec. 19. An officer spoke to the man, who stated that he had been to the Bears game with a friend, came back to the friend’s house and then decided to walk home to Wauconda. Realizing he could not, he laid down. The officer brought the man to the police station, called a cab for him and contacted the wife to let her know he was on his way.

THEFT

A resident reported Dec. 15 that while checking her account statement she noted two unauthorized withdrawals from her account in the amount of $246 and one unsuccessful attempt. All were made on the same day in Evanston. The resident still has her debit card in her possession.

A woman reported that someone made five ATM withdrawals totaling $1,515 from her account between Dec. 15 and Dec. 16. The withdrawals took place in Chicago and Morton Grove.

A resident reported Dec. 16 that someone made two unauthorized withdrawals from his account totaling $915. The resident still has his card in his possession.

WARRANT

Guillermo A. Rodriguez, 32, of the 1400 block of Carol Court, Palatine, was arrested at 4:50 p.m. Oct. 28 on a warrant for fleeing police during an incident on Nov. 29, 2008.

WELL-BEING CHECK

A complainant reported Dec. 18 that she had been unable to get in touch with her cousin for the past two days. Officers received no answer at the door, but found an unlocked door. The interior of the apartment was checked and no one was found inside. Officers left a note and secured the door. On another check, officers found the resident at home and in good physical condition.
