Police Blotter: Husband Pawns Wife's Jewelry, Teens Charged with Firing BB Guns

ALCOHOL

Yelena A. Shapiro, 31, of the 900 block of Cumberland Lane, Buffalo Grove, was charged with driving under the influence and illegal lane use at 1 a.m. June 2 on northbound Weiland Road at Pauline Avenue.

Ruben Reyes-Aguilar, 28, of the 1-100 block of East Dundee Quarter Drive, Palatine, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence, driving on a revoked license, illegal lane use, illegal transportation of open liquor and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle at 11 p.m. June 3 on Dundee Road at Buffalo Grove Road.

ANIMALS

A resident reported that she learned of a neighbor’s dog biting another dog and wanted to report that same neighbor’s dog had bitten her own dog in December. She had not reported this because her dog was not injured at the time. She wanted that incident documented because of this recent incident.

BATTERY

A complainant reported that the vehicle in front of him was driving slowly in the median lane, so he passed in the curb lane at 6:20 p.m. June 1 at Lake-Cook and Buffalo Grove roads. The vehicle again pulled in front of the complainant and drove slowly, so the complainant again passed in the curb lane. At the red light, the other driver got out of his car and grabbed the complainant by the arm and made threats of bodily harm. The other driver then left. The license provided did not match the offending vehicle.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A resident reported that three people were in a field, with one pointing a gun at 8:20 p.m. June 3 on Weiland Road at Armstrong Drive. Officers located the three and found three Airsoft BB guns on the ground. The three admitted to shooting the guns. Charged with discharging a firearm in the village were Ilivan C. Lobo, 19, of the 16100 block of West Pope Boulevard, Prairie View; a 17-year-old Buffalo Grove resident and a 16-year-old Buffalo Grove resident. The three were released to their parents.

DISPUTE

A resident reported she honked her horn upon noticing a vehicle driving recklessly at 9:35 p.m. June 2 in a parking lot on the 1400 block of Johnson Drive. The other driver then pulled up and yelled, making racial comments. When the residents got out of their car, the other driver came up to them and chest-bumped the male passenger, making additional threats. The other driver then left the area.

FOUND ITEM

A resident found a black trifold wallet at 9:50 p.m. June 3 at Weiland Road and Deerfield Parkway. The desk officer contacted the owner who said that he would stop by to pick up the wallet.

IMPROPER SECURITY

A resident of the 600 block of Raupp Boulevard reported that when she returned home at 7:45 p.m. June 2 she found the front door standing open. Officers entered the home and found everything undisturbed and no one inside.

PROPERTY DAMAGE 

A complainant returned to her car at 4 p.m. June 1 on East Canterbury Lane to find that the hood had been dented. The complainant stated that she had seen two boys playing basketball and suspected that they were responsible. An officer spoke with the two boys who denied causing the damage.

A customer at reported that a witness saw a group of youths damaging the customer’s car by striking it with their car door at 2:30 p.m. June 1. An officer will follow up.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

A resident reported that two of his daughter’s friends came to his house at 7:55 p.m. June 2 to advise that a man had been following them on Dundee Road at Crofton Lane. The man had asked the girls for directions and then made a sexual comment. The man, who was riding a bicycle, was described as in his 30s with brownish/gray hair, and was wearing a gray-collared shirt and bright blue workout pants with a white stripe down the legs. The area was checked with negative results.

THEFT

A employee reported that the Frisbee golf sign was taken from the course between May 29-30 at . The sign, which is green and outlines each of the holes on the course, is valued at $300.

A loss-prevention official at reported that a theft of four bottles of tequila and two frozen dinners was recorded on video at 11:55 a.m. May 30. The video showed the offender to be a male. The items are valued at $169.49.

A resident reported that her husband took multiple pieces of her jewelry and pawned them between April 28 and May 19. An officer spoke with the pawnshop official, who confirmed the transactions. The jewelry was kept by the pawnshop for 48 hours, per law, and then melted down.

A complainant reported when he returned to his truck after shopping at 2:30 p.m. June 2 on the 700 block of South Buffalo Grove Road, he found that someone removed the rear license plate from the vehicle. The stolen plate was entered into police state database.

VIOLATION OF AN ORDER OF PROTECTION

A resident reported June 2 that her ex-boyfriend called her and told her that he missed her. The phone call was in violation of an order of protection served to the ex-boyfriend in open court. The ex denied making the call. An officer then called the number from which the call originated and the man who answered stated the he was the ex’s father and had lent his son his cellphone. The officer will follow up.
