Police Blotter: Hit and Run, Stolen Property

These were among the reports released Feb. 28 by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

ALCOHOL

Officers located a subject lying in the snow at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 26 in a parking lot on the 1100 block of Windbrooke Drive. The subject was intoxicated and uncooperative. Paramedics treated the subject for his diabetes, assisted him to his apartment and turned him over to his wife.

A resident reported Feb. 27 that his adult son was intoxicated and acting out of control. When officers arrived, the resident stated that he no longer required police assistance.

BATTERY

Jeffrey J. Velmont, 43, of the 1000 block of Pine Tree Circle North, Buffalo Grove, was charged with domestic battery at 12:15 a.m. Feb. 27.

BURGLARY

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 24 in the parking lot of Dominick’s, 450 Half Day Road. A wallet was taken from a purse that was left in the car. When the complainant called to cancel her credit cards, she learned that the offender had already used her credit cards to make purchases and to rent a car.

A resident of the 0-100 block of Oak Creek Drive returned home to find that her bedroom had been ransacked between 4:30 p.m. Feb. 26 and 12:30 a.m. Feb. 27. She also found that the sliding door and screen open. Taken was $350 in cash and $3,300 in jewelry.

HIT AND RUN

A driver stated that a vehicle made a u-turn in front of him and that vehicle struck the driver’s side fender of his car at 5:35 p.m. Feb. 26 on Buffalo Grove Road south of Dundee Road. Wheeling police went to the address attached to the license plate and spoke with the registered owner. The 17-year-old Wheeling resident admitted to causing the accident and stated that she left because she was scared. She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident/following too closely, and driving without a valid driver’s license.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A Buffalo Grove Park District employee reported Feb. 25 receiving a couple of hang up calls every day for the past week A number was obtained from caller ID.  An officer spoke with a 16-year-old boy, who said that he called the employee because he announces for the Chicago Wolves, that he is his favorite person, and that he would not make any further calls.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A employee at a business on the 1300 block of West Dundee Road reported that a hole was made in the lower left hand side of her windshield between 3-10:30 p.m. Feb. 25.

THEFT

A resident of the 1-100 block of Chevy Chase Drive reposed that the postal carrier left a package between the doors on Feb. 14. When the resident arrived at home, the package was missing.

A complainant reported that his ex-girlfriend used his ID to open a checking account and write checks in Massachusetts between Feb. 1-26. The local police department was been informed, and the complainant was given instructions on placing an alert with the credit bureaus.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident reported Feb. 25 that the upstairs neighbor jumps and pounds on the floor so much that the nails in the resident’s ceiling are popping out. An officer noted a number of nail heads popping from the drywall. The neighbor stated that her two children sometimes get rambunctious while playing, but there is no effort to purposefully make excessive noise.

A complainant reported seeing her her ex-boyfriend at a business at 8 p.m. Feb. 25 on the 300 block of McHenry Road. The ex-boyfriend went over to where she was and he stared at her, which the complainant felt was harassment. An officer spoke with the ex, who said he was upset over the break up and just wanted to talk.  The ex was advised to have no further contact with the complainant and he stated that he understood.

A resident reported that an unknown female subject was knocking on the resident’s door asking for assistance at 3:30 a.m. Feb. 27. Officers located the subject, who stated that she came from St. Louis to confront the resident about a relationship the resident was having with her husband. Officers advised the subject to have no further contact with the resident and to discuss the situation with her husband and/or her attorney.

A customer at a gas station on the 1-100 block of Lake-Cook Road used a gift card to pay for gas on Feb. 27, but the card was denied twice. The resident then paid in cash. When he returned home, the resident checked the gift card web site and found that his card had been used twice. The customer was advised to speak with the manager in the morning because a computer issue was cited as the problem.
