Police Blotter: Full Moon Results in Call to Police

ALCOHOL

Nathan T. Myers, 23, of the 2200 block of Nichols Road, Arlington Heights, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding at 4:15 p.m. Dec. 11 on westbound Lake-Cook Road from Milwaukee Avenue.

A resident of Lake Boulevard reported Dec. 9 that a neighbor opened a door with such force that his right wrist was injured. When offered medical assistance from the paramedics, the resident refused, stating that he will seek advice from his attorney first.

A complainant reported Dec. 7 that after eating at a restaurant on the 100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, he became ill and required hospitalization. The diagnosis was food poisoning. The complainant wanted to file the report and will speak to the restaurant official himself. 

A resident reported that a man with whom his wife is having an affair came to the house and knocked on the door at 10:50 p.m. Dec. 9. At the resident’s request, an officer called the man and advised him not to return to the house.

employees reported a man was demanding free food and was threatening employees if he was not given any at 3:50 p.m. Dec. 10. Officers located the man, who stated that he did not threaten anyone. The officer passed on the message that the man is no longer welcome at the restaurant. He stated that he understood and left the area.

A server at requested assistance with several customers who were refusing to pay at 2:30 a.m. Dec. 11. The server stated that there were 12 people in a group and when they finished eating, they requested separate checks. The restaurant has a "no separate check" policy and the customers became upset. An officer spoke with the group and the bill was paid.

DRUGS

Michael S. Swanson, 18, of the 100 block of Steeple Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession of marijuana and consumption of alcohol by a minor at 11:40 p.m. Dec. 10 after police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle with two occupants on the 100 block of Steeple Drive. An officer spoke with the Swanson and could smell burnt marijuana. A blunt was seen lying on the center console, a baggie containing a green leafy substance was found on the driver, and a bottle of vodka was retrieved from the car.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 600 block of Highland Grove Drive someone damaged two curbside mailboxes with a blunt object between 9 and 11 p.m. Dec. 9.

SUSPICIOUS PHONE CALLS/INCIDENTS

A resident reported Dec. 10 that a former fellow employee who had tried to start a relationship with her, but she declined, called her and she hung up. The resident changed her phone number, and believes the former employee is now following her and driving past her house. An officer initiated an extra watch and told the resident to call 911 immediately should she see the former employee.

A resident of the 2300 block of Avalon Drive reported an unknown vehicle stopped in front of his home at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 10. When the resident approached the car to confront the driver, the vehicle took off. An officer spoke with the registered owner, who was a neighbor. She stated that she stopped at that location to take photographs of the full moon.

A resident of the 300 block of Checker Drive reported that he is in the habit of locking his garage door, the cars inside and the service door. The morning of Dec. 11, he found the overhead door open and the car unlocked with the electric windows down and the sunroof partially open. Nothing appeared to be missing.

THEFT

A resident of the 1300 block of Gail Drive reported that when she and her husband returned home at 7 p.m. Dec. 9, they found that someone had taken Christmas decorations from their yard.

A resident of the 1100 block of Auburn Lane reported that he had some friends over for a party on Dec. 9. The resident later found that his friends had taken jewelry from his mother’s bedroom and $70 from his wallet.

A gas station clerk on the 1200 block of McHenry Road reported that a female driver left without paying for $38.92 worth of gas at 1 p.m. Dec. 10. An officer contacted the registered owner of the license plate given, and that owner stated that his car has been in the garage all day. Other combinations of the plate did not produce a gray Chrysler minivan.

A resident reported that someone made an unauthorized online charge on his credit card on Nov. 25. The amount was for $414.34 to the LEGO Shop at Home Company.

Someone took a silver and orange BMX bicycle between Nov. 26 and Dec. 2 from a backyard on the 400 block of White Pine Road. The bicycle is valued at $250.

A resident reported three unauthorized transactions were made between Dec. 8 and Dec. 10 on a credit card that she still has in her possession. The card was canceled and the credit provider will follow up.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A complainant reported that in September her work supervisor asked for her to meet him in a parking lot on the 1-100 block of McHenry Road. There, the supervisor asked the complainant to sit in his car, which she did. The supervisor then pinned her down and kissed her without her consent. This occurred on one other occasion. An officer spoke with the supervisor, who stated that the kissing was consensual and that he at no time forced or pinned her. No complaints were signed.

A resident received a phone call from two car dealers Dec. 10 to confirm loan applications that the resident did not make. The resident was told that all of the resident’s personal identification was used. The resident will check with the credit bureaus and place a fraud alert.

A resident reported a water main break at 7:40 a.m. Dec. 11 on the 600 block of Stanford Lane. An officer found water coming from a backyard and located an outside spigot that was gushing water. The officer turned the water off and did not receive an answer at the house. The officer left a voice mail message for the resident.
