Police Blotter: Found Wallets, False Suicide Threats

ALCOHOL

Amanda Dani, 22, of the 500 block of Midland, Mundelein, was charged with driving under the influence, speeding, illegal lane use and driving without insurance at 3:10 a.m. July 30 on Buffalo Grove Road at Fox Hill Drive.

Andriy Aftanaziv, 26, of the 700 block of East Whispering Oaks Drive, Palatine, was charged with driving under the influence and illegal lane use at 12:10 a.m. Aug. 1 on Dundee Road at Lake Boulevard.

BURGLARY

Someone entered a home on the 400 block of Mayfair Lane and took a laptop computer from the kitchen table, leaving other valuables that were in plain sight, between 11 p.m. July 29 and 8:30 a.m. July 30. There were no signs of forced entry. The resident believes that entry may have been made through the unlocked sliding doors.

A resident reported a subject leaving literature at homes and he felt this could be the cause of litter blowing on July 29 on the 200 block of Horatio Boulevard. An officer checked the area and did not locate the solicitor or any litter.

Someone reported loud music at 10:30 p.m. July 29 on the 1100 block of Highland Grove Drive. Officers made contact with the resident who stated that his friends were just leaving and the music would be turned off.

DISPUTE

A cab driver reported that his customer did not have the $65.25 fare or a credit card at 6:35 p.m. July 29 on the 1100 block of Lake-Cook Road. The customer stated that she did not know what happened to her ATM card. The customer contacted her ex-husband, who paid the fare.

A motorist reported that a motorcycle constantly cut him off at 7:50 p.m. July 29 at Lake-Cook and Arlington Heights roads. The motorist followed the motorcycle to his place of residence. An officer spoke with the motorcycle driver who apologized and stated he may have cut off the motorist accidentally, but that the motorist became the aggressor. After some discussion, both departed peacefully.

DRUGS

A 17-year-old Buffalo Grove resident was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at 11:05 p.m. July 30 on North Weiland Road.

FOUND PROPERTY

A resident turned in a man’s black bi-fold wallet that her boyfriend found July 30 at the intersection of Arlington Heights and McHenry roads. An officer contacted the owner, who stated that he placed the wallet on top of his car while purchasing gas at a nearby station. He retrieved the wallet from the police station.

A resident turned in a wallet, keys, flashlight and wine bottle opener that she found on a sandbar in the Wisconsin River on July 31. An officer contacted the sheriffs of the counties in Iowa that pertain to the address on the driver’s license. The items were placed into property at the station.

A citizen reported finding a black wallet at 4:30 p.m. July 31 on top of an ATM on the 500 block of Half Day Road. An officer went to the owner’s home and returned the item. The owner stated that everything was inside.

FRAUD

Bonnie L. Knight, 48, of the 100 block of Fountain Grass Circle, Bartlett, was charged with two counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and illegal possession of prescription forms at 10:30 a.m. July 29 at , after police said she attempted to fill a prescription for Hydrocodone. A pharmacist reportedly called the doctor, who stated that he did not fill out that prescription and that a woman has been forging his prescriptions.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident reported that the IRS contacted him to let him know that someone used his Social Security number to file a duplicate tax return on April 8. The resident is cooperating with the IRS on the investigation.

INVESTIGATION

A resident reported that she believes that her estranged husband may have tampered with her computer between June 1 and July 31. The husband seems to know information that she has on her computer. The resident had a technician check and he found software that allowed information on the computer to be routed elsewhere. The resident did not install or authorize this software.

PHONE THREAT/HARASSMENT

A resident received a phone call from a male subject who threatened bodily harm at 3:30 p.m. July 31. The subject refused to identify himself. The resident, who does not have caller ID, and was given *57 instructions.

A resident reported July 31 that an acquaintance, whom she has tried to help with his drug addiction, keeps sending garbled and harassing messages to her. The resident also believes that the acquaintance has attempted to get into her home by trying to open a window, activating the alarm. The resident did not want the officer to contact the acquaintance at this time.

THEFT

Someone pumped $50 worth of gasoline at the station and left without paying at 3:20 p.m. July 29. The individual was driving a red Mazda 2 with black rims. The license provided was not valid.

A resident reported that someone attempted to make a transaction to her account on July 25 at a bank on the 100 block of North McHenry Road. The resident’s purse was stolen from her vehicle with her account card. The account had been closed.

TRESPASSING

Artem Adamovich, 20, of the 4900 block of North Harding Avenue, Chicago, was arrested on two warrants for trespassing at 3:40 p.m. July 31 on the 1-100 block of East Dundee Road. One of the warrants was from Buffalo Grove, and the other was from Cook County.

WELL-BEING CHECK

An official from Disney’s website reported at 2 a.m. July 30  that a resident had posted a message saying that she was going to overdose on pills. An officer spoke with the resident who denied being on the website. It was determined that her 10-year-old daughter posted the message as a joke.

An off-duty police officer reported a teenage female juvenile got out of a car and appeared intoxicated at 11:50 p.m. July 30 on Arlington Heights Road at Old Arlington Heights Road. An officer located the 19-year old female, drove her to the police station and had her mother pick her up.

A complainant reported at 8:45 a.m. July 31 that his ex-girlfriend made a comment to him about leaving this earth. An officer spoke with the ex, who stated that the complainant broke up with her this morning and she had no intention of harming herself. The ex denied making any comments to that regard.
