Police Blotter: Felony Drug Charge, Fires and Unlocked Homes

ALCOHOL

Istvan Balla, 69, of the 3400 block of North Carriageway Drive, Arlington Heights, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash at 5:45 p.m. Nov. 13 on eastbound Lake-Cook Road west of Buffalo Grove Road.

ANIMALS

An officer responded to a report of a barking dog at 11:55 a.m. Nov. 13 on the 400 block of Middlesex Court. The officer located the dog in the backyard, and found the dog to be shivering. The officer found the back door to the house unlocked. A check of the house found no one inside and all in order. The dog was let into the house, the door was secured, and a note was left for the homeowner.

DRUGS

Miguel A. Martinez, 21, of the 100 block of Hansom, Wheeling, was charged with manufacture/delivery of cannabis (a Class 4 felony), possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding at 1:05 a.m. Nov. 14 on Dundee Road at Betty Drive.

FIRE ASSIST

Police and fire personnel responded to a report of a truck on fire at 4:40 p.m. Nov. 13 at Checker Drive and Shady Grove Lane. They extinguished the blaze. The truck was towed. 

Officers responded to a report of a grease fire at 5:15 a.m. Nov. 14 in the kitchen at Burger King. An officer used an extinguisher to some avail, and the fire personnel then put out the fire completely.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A resident of the 200 block of Mohawk Trail reported that when she returned home at 7:15 p.m. Nov. 13, all of the lights had been turned on, the rear door was standing open and the screen door was propped open with a cinder block. Nothing was disturbed or missing. The resident suspected the landlord entered the house because he had told the resident that he needed to inspect the home. An officer called the landlord and left a message.
